Help needed with ipad

Postby sprite1950 » 18 Nov 2017, 09:15

I bought my granddaughter a brand new ipad for her birthday but it is asking her for a passcode which she hasn't set up. How can we fix this as it is useless until we figure this out? :(

I take it you brought it "new" from a trusted retailer?

When setting it up initially it does ask to set up a passcode which can be ignore but it then shouldn't require one if one wasn't set. It is probably that one was set up without really being aware of why it was being set up maybe.

Either way following these instructions are best - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204306

It will wipe the device of everything though.

I bought it from Argos brand new. No it doesn't ask her to set up a passcode it just asks her for the password which she hasn't set up. It's been chaotic in this house this morning trying to work it out. Thanks for the info I will see if it works.

During the initial set up it will have asked to set one up. When it gives you the option to connect to WiFi, enable siri, allow location and connect to iCloud etc. It can be skipped but like I said if it is skipped, it shouldn't then ask for one and I have never heard of that happening.

I googled it and it does happen with new ipads as there are questions from people asking the same thing. It's possible she pressed something by mistake but she says not. Anyway I will get it sorted as soon as I can.

Umm .. I don't know. I've followed the recovery instructions and can get as far as restoring it to factory settings but it doesn't work and after 15 minutes it comes up with an error message. :(
