Do you save passwords in browser?

Postby mrki444 » 08 Jan 2018, 19:04

I just read article in Croatian IT magazin that browser password managers are in danger since have low level of encryption. There are also some scripts that can read all your login details in browser. Some IT experts suggest Mozzila and Google that remove passoword managers from their browsers.

Do you save passwords in your browser? I do.

I have never trusted any online service with my private information. I have my own backup system here in my own home and do not use any cloud type backup service, again, because I do not trust them with any of my private information. Just who exactly has access to content uploaded for someone else to store for you? No one really knows what goes on behind those supposedly secured systems. Hacks are common, so they are not all that protected.

If you have to keep a list of your passwords, you are better off keeping the list in your head, or at least under your private control.

I created a private password system that makes every password I use easy to remember. Obviously, I can't exactly explain what that is because I would be spilling the beans.

However, just for a clue so you can do the same, I created a lengthy sentence that relates to specific memories of experiences in my own life. It is something I can not just forget because it is so personal. I can easily modify that sentence for each site that requires a password so each is unique, even though the core is the same. This allows me to easily remember a unique 16 - 20 digit password for each site.

Think initials and come up with your own system. It is not that hard to do once you get it set with something you cannot forget. Save your list in your head and forget putting your private data where someone can potentially access your accounts without your permission.

Everybody has it's own system for creating passwords. I will probably retype my passwords in some notebook and put it on safe place.

No, I do not. Because, like Google Chrome, you can simply unhide the password and boom you see the password. I mean of the saved passwords. Unless you're the only one who uses that computer.

I use an online site (passpack) that is very good at keeping them safe. I never use Chrome for that

IT experts suggest using special add-ons since they have much better encryption.

Same, @sdm95. I use Passpack as well, and it's special "Packing Key" encryption function is very innovative and one of the best at keeping your passwords safe!

Nope, I don't trust sites that offer to save my passwords. I just rather save it on files.

I saved only those, there are 2fa additional. I was robbed one time (someone logged in my account and withdraw 70$), from that event I'm more careful with passwords and accounts.

I do if it's something I'm not too concerned about, but not for banking info, etc. I was using a password manager, but it broke when Firefox was updated. Now, all my passwords are saved on various sites, and no matter how many times I change it manually, the old one still appears (and then says I'm using the wrong password). So, it's a pain to put them all in manually every time I clear cookies and such.

I need to set up a (better) password manager.

A valid suggestion.
But, if some devious third party gets hold of some of your personal documents such as IDs, they can guess your initials-based password.
