Do You Use Voice Searches?

Postby cmoneyspinner » 20 Jan 2018, 17:40

Do you use voice searches?

I don't! I'm sure it's an excellent tool.

I'm just paranoid! Or not geeky enough to appreciate its value. :geek: :ugeek: :lolno:

Two tech tools I am not particularly fond of:
one is the web cam and the other is the microphone inside my computer.

I think they can be used to spy on me and invade my privacy. Nobody told me that. It's just what I think!

Hey! The mind can be a terrible thing sometimes. It can control you!

If you do use voice searches, here is a blog post that you might find helpful.

No, I too don't use voice searches. It's never even entered my brain to do so. Like you, I'm a bit paranoid. As it stands, we put ourselves out there through our online activities and we're already being 'spied on' so I really don't want to add to it LOL

I know what you mean. I watch those movies where a person is talking to another person. The person thinks they are talking to someone they know but they're NOT because the person on the other side of the phone line is using a "voice thingamabob" that changes their voice to sound like the person they know. Yeah! I got that from the Terminator movie! But it could happen! Don't you think??

I don't use voice searches. It's not good enough for using. Most words are miscorrect.

I don't do voice search I am not confident about my Asian accent. I am good with text-based service. In my experience voice search needs better internet connection than the normal search which is not available in my place.

No, I haven't tried it. I got curious though, but I'm still okay with typing.

I use it less though especially when I'm very lazy to type, though it might waste a bit of time

Voice searches are tricky. First you have to get the phone to understand your pronunciations and if you have any dental irregularity the phone cannot understand. The last time I tried it, I spent more time correcting the grammatical errors. So I don't use voice searches.

I tried voice searches but didn't found it so easy as text search. It's because of the pronunciation of some words. We cannot pronounce every word like a machine or artificial intelligence can. And, as a non-native English speaker my many pronunciations are wrong. This causes sometimes an unimaginable search result and of course funny. :D

Yes, it's true you must have a good accent so it could understand what you're searching for but if not you might get irritated if voice searches won't follow you.

I haven't done either voice search or used my webcam for money making purpose. I don't mind punching a few keys on my devices rather than speak and taken to unwanted pages. I am not sure if I would use any of these in near future although different "Assistants" on different devices are hard to resist.

Yes. I see what you mean. After all, there are people who have completely different accents. My husband I both speak English but he is from The Bahamas and pronounces many words differently from the way that I would pronounce them.

I tried just a few times but most of the time the search results are incorrect. I must agree with previous comments that it will also depend on your accent, tone, clarity of enunciation and so on. Instead of laboring to say the search criteria right I would rather type and save time.

Re: Do You Use Voice Searches?

When President Bush Jr. was the POTUS he wanted to improve our educational system and he used as a guideline the phrase “No child left behind”. I suppose it meant that just because you were poor it didn't mean that you shouldn't have an opportunity to receive a good education. In other words, NO child (rich or poor) would be left behind because the importance of access to education for ALL citizens can not be underestimated or overlooked, etc. Get it?

Anyway!

Sometimes when I read headlines like the one below, especially tech news, I start scrathcing my head and it makes me think: 'What about the adults like me who got left behind?' :?

How to Take Over Google's Featured Snippets and Win Voice Search in 2018

https://www.marketingprofs.com/articles/2018/33473/how-to-take-over-googles-featured-snippets-and-win-voice-search-in-2018

The article starts:
“If you've read any 2018 SEO-trend articles, you know that voice search is the wave of the future. ..”

I'm thinking to myself: 'Aw man! Another wave!!'

Then it goes on to talk about a “Featured Snippet” and yadda yadda yadda …

I'm like: 'Forget it! I'll save it and study it later!' :?

Stuff like this you can't ignore because it has significant SEO-impact. Guess I will have to set my paranoia aside and “learn what this meaneth”!

You needed to have a good internet connection for you to be able to perform a voice search.

No, I don't normally. But when I had a lot of time to spare (which I don't have anymore) I used to use voice search to see if my speech are correct or not. So, I used to pass a lot of time with voice searching
