What does one do to cool down a motherboard?

Postby smithy » 24 Jan 2018, 13:56

I am currently in need of assistance with a motherboard that has a 111c heating issue. What should i do to keep this issue to prevent total shutdown on the PC?

Are you talking about a desktop computer or a laptop?

If a desktop, it sounds like you need to unplug everything for maintenance. Remove the outside cover and look for the cooling fan. Chances are extremely high it is either no longer working, or more likely just plain dirty. They collect dust and debris during operation and can get so plugged up that they no longer provide any cooling at all.

Use a vacuum cleaner and soft brush to remove all residue. Be sure to also clean the vent openings on the cover itself. That is most likely all you need to repair this problem.

If you are talking about a laptop - it is also possible that the fan and vent openings need to be vacuumed. There is one more helpful option for laptops. You can buy a fan base to place under your laptop. Some models plug into a USB port and provide extra cooling. Some are just a heat sink style that do not require any power. By design, they draw out heat to keep the laptop cooler during operation.

I had this problem once. I added another cooling fan in the tower and it worked fine shortly after. Depending on where you reside they have some good retail stores that you can buy these from. You can even try some online sites that offer these retail services. I wish you a lot of luck :)

I have this problem with my laptop now. It gets super hot and sometimes will just shut down. It is on the older side and I have tried a cooling fan but it didn't do anything. It could have been the fan though since it was a cheap one. I am going to be looking for a new laptop though as my battery is losing it's power even though I keep my laptop plugged in. I think it's time to put this one out of its misery. Hope the great tips help you out.

Living in the UK right now, I have no problems keeping the temperature down.

Are you using a PC? Your casing must have a cooling fan or you could detach the side panel of the casing then use an electric fan to cool it down.

Based on the above response posts, I guess you need to have some significant level of computer technical knowledge to resolve your issue successfully.

I think that you need to change your CPU fan as it's the most important fan to power on a PC!
If you don't know how to check it go to the nearest repair shop.
