What programming languages do you think will stay around in industries for a long time?

Postby smithy » 27 Jan 2018, 11:21

I'm pretty sure that everyone is going to tell me Python will be around. But I actually don't like how it feels to program in Python. I like R and C++, and I'm still mourning the death of Perl. Also, why do you think these languages will stay around? I am actually learning Python so yeah.

For me it's

1. JavaScript
2. Kotlin
3. Python
4. PHP

Sorry Java is slowly dying...
Google replaced Java with Kotlin as their official language for android.

What you tend to find is that people appreciate the style and syntax of the first language they learn in.

I think the languages with the brightest future are:

- Python.
- C (Sorry Rust).
- F# or perhaps Haskell or C#. I think functional programming will only continue to gain popularity. I especially like F# because it seems like their abstractions don't cost speed over languages like Java and C#.
- A language like Dart or something similar. JavaScript will eventually be replaced by web assembly which will open up other languages on the web.

I like the look of Kotlin, Nim and Have but I'm not sure they will be widely adopted.

I'm pretty sure that HTML and PHP will be there for a long time unless they've changed the way we browse the internet. Well, internet always evolve so we can pretty much see more programming language which can become more complex and secure. Well, HTML can't be considered programming language for some reason so I would say PHP.
