Is there a way my friends could see my Internet history?

Postby smithy » 01 Feb 2018, 08:56

Is there a way my friends could see all my Internet history since I'm using the WiFi ? I use my phone for YouTube, instagram etc. So is there a way for them to see exactly all my searches and videos from YouTube that I watch and everything. And if they can what could I do to hide it?

Your friends may or may not be able to see your online activity, it depends on how secure the wifi connection is and if they have installed software to monitor activity on that connection. The more frightening question is just who CAN see all your activity.

Your browser service and various hidden government services can and do review all your online activity. Anyone who works there can watch everything you do. They have entire departments where all employees spend their entire days just watching all online activity. They have programs to alert them to specific activities or even words in your communications if there is any potential threat to the public. If you view child porn, they could alert the police to show up at your door to arrest you, take your computer and put you in jail for years. If they seize your computer, they can easily access a secret hidden history file on your computer that you cannot erase to see everything you have done on that computer since you acquired it.

If you use a computer provided by your employer, your employer can easily install a program to watch every keystroke, including those you backspace and never post.

If you are using a computer your parents provided, they can browse your file history, browser history and any spyware they might have installed to monitor your usage.

You can go to your control panel and erase the visible history files, including your browser files so casual users of your computer may not see them, but that hidden history file cannot be erased. In most cases, you cannot even find that hidden file unless you yourself are very familiar with computer codes. Legal authorities use that hidden file all the time to make their case.

So, don't be too worried about what your friends may see, but be very careful about what legal authorities can review. People get caught and arrested all the time because legal agencies detected illegal activity on computers. When they show up at your door to seize the computer as evidence while they toss you behind bars, your goose is cooked. Game over.

If it is illegal where you live, don't do it, don't view it, don't type it. Your friends are the least of your worries.

No, they don't. Your browser has your history. Your ISP can also know your internet history or traffic. However, they can of course see your history if you let them.
