I'm just starting up a youtube channel and thinking of emailing a specific company if they can mail me a item so I can make a review video about the item. My question is if I can keep the item after the video or do I mail it back

Ask them. Some companies don't care. I have been involved in product reviews in the past and kept them (because the company didn't ask for them back).

If your just start channel than you won't be able to keep it. If you had big channel with many subscribers and followes than they will let keep it since your ad would bring many buyers.

This way, I think you have to give only positive review. And, people like to see negative reviews more than positive review. And if you help a company giving positive reviews on their product, I think you can keep the product.

It depends on your arrangement with the company and your actual relationship with the company. Sometimes there are certain rights you are entitled to and certain obligations you are responsible for.

First of all, make sure the company you want to review for is legit. Next don't send any money to companies for doing this. If it is a legit company, they will have no problem sending you the product. Also ask the company if you have to send it back will they provide a return label postage paid with tracking on it so they know you sent it back to them.Good luck with your journey.
