How to live with slow internet?

Postby smithy » 01 Feb 2018, 09:03

I'm stuck with 70kbps internet, it's so slow and I can't do anything. It takes an hour to download a 50MB file, videos take forever to buffer and keep pausing . It's literally like I have dial up and it's so annoying

Are your neighbours getting faster downloads? Or is it because of where you live?

There was only one time in my life I had slow internet and that was back in 2013 when our area had dial-up. Once it was upgraded we got high speed. I have had high-speed sense and can't see me every using dial up again. If I had to go back to it, I would probably be online way less!

Our internet speed is just right but we have a limit on data we use every month. It's really annoying to have slow internet especially if your working online

I've been using computers since 1980, and have been active on the Internet since around 1994. Back then, the only access was called dialup, using the home phone to call a number to connect. If someone called while online, they got a busy signal.

Every page took a long time to load. I often made the connection, then went to the kitchen for something to eat or drink while I waited for the page to load. Even though I took my time, it was not unusual to come back to sit and wait even longer. I drank a lot more coffee back then.

Slow access was just normal, since no one even heard of anything that could be called a high speed connection. I often had other offline pages open to work on while I waited, and waited, and waited.

If you are still stuck with dial-up, you simply have to find other things to do while you wait. Cheer up. At least you are not using the 20kbps I had back then.

Is this a WiFi speed? A hotspot? Something you've set up yourself on dial up, adsl, cable, fibre? If you give us some more details, we might be able to help a little more. In general you can look into increasing the caching on your browser (https://mageplugins.net/blog/post/how-t ... le-chrome/), disabling javascript (stops these objects downloading) or even stopping images.

My internet speed is fairly good. However, my laptop well, is kind of in the lower end. And a little old. It's slowing down my internet life. As sometimes it would hang up for a few seconds.

It sometimes feel like I have a low speed internet connection. Kinda disappointing. And annoying. :(

I feel your pain. :(
In my area, there's a certain mobile telephony company that is offering 50 MB of free internet each day. Tragically, I've never been able to use this offer as the speeds are utterly slow.

That really sucks. When you are heavy downloader that internet speed will not let you download a good file. For slow internet speed, you can just go for simpler browsing like social networks or read articles.

OMG!! Really?? Your internet is that slow??
When I first moved to my new house the internet here was also really slow (a little better than yours). However, another internet provider started to provide internet here (by optic fiber) and now I have 200Mbps :)
I'm so happy... Now I can see youtube videos in 4K and the video don't stop... Before I barely saw a video in 480p...

Optic fiber or cable is indeed better. Unfortunately, not many countries offer the same, many countries still have broadband connections only like 3g and very low bandwidth. So, there's nothing they can do other than live in another country that has better internet provider.

It depends on your internet package if you want to have a high-speed connection you should upgrade your internet package it could cost you a lot but if you have a money to pay for it then I think it's worthy.
