Microsoft Products: Terms of Service Update for May 1, 2018

Postby OldGuy » 25 Mar 2018, 23:15

I received an email today from Microsoft about an update in their terms of service. It automatically goes into effect on May 1, 2018. If you continue to use any of their products after that date, you automatically agree to their new terms.

So I clicked on the link to see the updates. I have now been reading for more than an hour, and have clicked on links to open 10 more pages on added conditions that apply. I have barely moved down the original page beyond the first quarter inch of the slider bar at the right edge. Who knows how much more there is to it and how many more pages are involved?

It seems that it should be illegal for any such update to even be allowed to be so absurdly complex that no one can actually read it all.

Have you ever tried to actually read Terms of Service policies or any updates, or do you just shrug and accept the consequences, sight unseen?

Sometimes I do read them but only if it is an important thing that I need, the rest I just either give up or if it is from a site with few importance or which can not cause me troubles I accept it.

I hardly read terms of service of any site as I assume there will be no conditions that would be difficult for me to adhere to. But after this FB debacle I suppose one should read them. I have not received the email you are referring to.

If you use any Microsoft product and have not received any notice of the update, this is the direct link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/service ... oming.aspx

This one is supposedly a summary of just the updated portions:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/service ... g-faq.aspx

Do your bathroom break. Get your snacks or drinks by your side and dig in. It is tiring and will take a lot of time, especially if you follow all the links to related content that is all part of the deal.

I haven't anything like this so far! If the terms of service is that long I may not read the entire thing> Generally I read the terms and conditions if they are short and easy to comprehensive then I will read! Thanks!

I use pirate software so I don't receive any notification. I also unsubscribe where I can from any notification.
