I think portable gaming is dead.

Postby Netherrealmer » 06 Apr 2018, 21:33

I dont think we will have a new Iteration of Nintendo DS or PSP. Console gaming will stay alive thanks to hardcore gamers but Portable gaming devices are now dead thanks to smart phones. I am worried about the future of my favorite portable series like Ace Attorney and Proffesor Layton. :| :( :shifty:

I Portable games can have better graphics and capacity but Mobile phone gaming is cheaper.

Mobile games also have a higher prospect for profit considering the microtransactions that can be built into them, and the nature of the mobile platform makes games that rely on microtransactions very viable.

I think the game industry tried to come back with the nintendo switch. I don't know how the games are selling but I do have to agree with you. Since these phones have the games ,the handheld games are getting less popular :)

I'm not so sure. The Switch has many benefits over games on a smartphone or tablet. I say this as someone who has played a lot of smartphone games. A lot!

For sure smartphones are devices where we can do almost everything, nowadays. I think smartphones also almost killed tablets. However not for everyone... I still use my tablet... and my PSP :)
Tablets like portable consoles will find a niche and another way to resurance ;)

I'm not even fan of portable games since nowadays, it's like the same with smartphones. Before it's like a gaming device is only for games but now, your smartphones can do most of the stuffs. Even tablets isn't good for gaming I just find it good for presentation or corporate business.

Portable game gadgets also have features smart phones have. You can use them to use the internet and social networks. One thing that makes them struggle is their prize. More expensive than smart phones.

I never really became a fan of portable gaming. Even back with the classic gameboy before it was color and the Atari Lynx, I always preferred the regular games that were out for the NES and SNES. I've tried smartphone games and others that work on tablets and they fell short of expectations. I'm not sure if portable gaming is dead based upon the demographics, but it probably should be.

I am not seeing any new upcoming portable titles announced though. So it is 80 percent dead.

I found out that Switch became a hit in Japan, so there might be some hope for portables.

I got many other important uses with my smart phone apart from calling and texting! But definitely not the video games! I feel that is unnecessary time waste and I am too reluctant to down load a game application and play the game. May be I am only the freak person here who never played any video game seriously on mobile phone or on the TV!

I hate smartphone games because they are bombarded with ads and microtransactions. I prefer full purchased games. So death of portables are salt on the wounds for me.
