For a beginner like me owning a website was unthinkable. I had just about got into learning how internet works and that was the time I came across this facility where we could create websites and place them in cities depending on the subject of our website. For example, if I wrote on technology it would be placed in Silicon Valley and so on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_GeoCities

Cloud computing existed as early as 1994

Soon that was abolished and we could place them under our own name. I was like a kid uploading images to attract viewers. There was no earnings but the joy of being in the World Wide Web was enough for me.

Sadly Yahoo decided to shut down this facility and at that time there were 38 million user built pages that just vanished.

Geo Cities Japan still exists.

Google came to our rescue and we now can blog away our blues.

Did you have any experience with Geo Cities??

I remember when I was accepted as a contributor to YAHOO Voices. I even got paid for my articles. But the network sh*t down. It was fun while it lasted.

I was not aware of Yahoo voices but just getting into the World Wide Web was too much for a novice like me.

I didn't experience using this platform. I started blogging with Blogger and after that, I learned using Wordpress.org. I want to develop more my blogging skills to gain more knowledge in website management. I may not be able to devote more time to this activity but I know a few years from now, I will be considering online as my main source of income.

If blogging is what you have in mind in the hope that it will provide good income, I suggest you talk about it with those who are successful bloggers who could give you an idea about how consistent their earnings are.

Yahoo is global and therefore wonder why you did not get to see it.

Happy I helped you reminisce. Those were the days - happy days I was sad when our pages disappeared.

I heard about this , but never used this facility so far. So having gathered some important information from your post I will google to get all the details before I start blogging there! Thanks a lot for providing a nice and useful piece of information which is useful for all the members here!

I have a blog with blogger and it is not monetized, so it is just blogging for hobby. I have heard of WrodPress. This is first time I am hearing about it. I have to explore it. It sounds good.
