Google Chrome Crashed?

Postby morgoodie » 09 Aug 2018, 13:57

I signed into my computer this morning and was going to start my online work. I noticed that I received messages from 3 of my extensions on Chrome had crashed. I tried clicking on the notifications but that got me nowhere. I opened up Chrome and couldn't do anything. I couldn't go to any site, so apparently it has crashed. I don't know how to fix it and I couldn't send anything to Google to let them know about the problem.

Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just lucky ole me? I don't mind using Microsoft Edge but all my passwords and bookmarks are on Chrome. It is frustrating and I hope they get it back up soon. I have never had this happen before. I have tried uninstalling it but for some reason it won't uninstall. I though maybe if I downloaded it again then the problem would go away. I am not a tech type of person so trying to fix it myself will be a nightmare. LOL.

Lucky ole YOU!

I have been using Chrome for years and have had no similar experience. I'm using it right now and all is working fine. It may be a regional outage, but chances appear high that region is confined to your house. Sounds like a learning experience is needed to fix it.

Probably does extensions are not updated and latest version of Chrome will not support it. Try to find update or alternative. Edge doesn't support any extension.

Apparently, it is confined to just my computer. I had my son check the desktop and it is fine. So how do I fix it on my computer? I wasn't aware that Edge doesn't support any extensions. It has a place for them though. I will just figure out how to fix Chrome or just use Edge from now on.

I will give you 2 possible solutions.

1. Delete history, cache and cookies. Maybe Chrome uses to much memory. Also deinstall extension and install it again.

2. Try deinstall Google Chrome and use CCleaner for cleaning all related files. After that, install Chrome again and extensions.

I have tried several times to delete Chrome and each time it says to close all Google Chrome windows to continue. I have no windows open. I can't get into history to clear it and I don't know how to clear cookies. I will look it up and try that. I will try to use the CCleaner and see if that helps or not.

I appreciate your help. This is frustrating and I don't understand why it happened. I closed out last night and shut my computer down like always.

Check if you have something save in the System Restore of your windows that you can use to restore your pc to a previous time before that happenned. Sometimes fix little bugs/problems.
I used to use that when i was with the windons xp installed. When i had the xp sometimes i saved manually , other times was automatic.

Now i'm with the 7 and i have never saved manually so sometimes i have nothing .

Also you can try to install chrome again, maybe have a repair option or because intall again repair the bugs

Thank you @Braids. I will try to restore to an earlier time. Hopefully, I have something saved as I don't do it manually. I wish I knew more about computers. My computer came with Windows 10 and it seems to like to restart all the time randomly when I am on it.

All is well with me and in fact after higgling haggling Chrome is where I have now settled down peacefully. Hope your issue will be settled soon.

Thanks @bestwriter I thought I would check it one more time and it has resolved itself. Thankfully, but I used Edge all day and didn't have any issues with that. Although, I did have to remember some passwords, but other than that it was a productive online work day. Glad you are liking Google Chrome. I know I do.

Just go to chrome download and they will repair it for you immediately (this option is there).

I've encountered that and since it is really hard for me to fix it I've decided to uninstall and re-install. And my problem fixes.

There is probably a background process running that hasn't been closed. Restarting and then trying to uninstall it BEFORE opening Chrome might work or opening Task Manager and searching for any Chrome related process and then terminating it. Hopefully then it will allow you to uninstall and reinstall. Make sure you opt to keep your user data/profile.

The problem may be though that something has happened to your profile. Maybe it is corrupted or something similar like that which is not good if you have saved passwords etc that you want to keep.
