I decided to make a game related thread relatable to non gamers.


I want you to explore the world of Fallout. Fallout is a video game series set on an alternate reality that is post apocalyptic. In an Alternate Universe, A war happened between United states against Russia and China during the 1950's. The United States of Murica hired a company called Vault tech to build bunker colonies where people can live underground safe from the radiation of nuclear bombs. They are called Fallout shelters.


These shelters can provide them food, energy and water for 100 years. The people will be locked there for a 100 years to save them from radiation.

There are 400 thousand vaults around the world where people where will populate for a century until radiation is gone.

Most of the vaults have equal numbers of Men and women but two vaults got unlucky!

Vault 68 and Vault 69.

In Vault 68 A single woman will be locked with 999 men for 100 years.

Do you think these colonies can survive after 100 years with the situation.

If you are a only man in Vault 69? How would you handle the situation where you are surrounded by women who wanted to become mothers.

If you are the woman in Vault 68, Are you going to be willing to have multiple spouses for the sake of the survival of humans?

I have a feeling many people will kill each other because of jealousy.

I have a feeling this could be called a "fairy tale" for more reasons than one. They might have gone in straight as an arrow but most will have turned to friends for more than friendly conversation within the first year or two. Most will eventually participate whether by choice or by force. Nearly all will be dead long before the 100 years are up, just because life isn't that long for most humans.

Under ordinary situations, a new generation is normal every 20 years. In such an environment, very few second generation kids will show up, and since they would all be at least half siblings, any third generation would have major health issues due to any potential inbreeding between siblings. A fourth generation would not be likely, or any few that do come along will be a physical mess with two previous generations of inbreeding.

When all is said and done, it is not likely any survivors at the end of 100 years will have even known any of the original group, and they would be so physically and mentally messed up the only place they could spend the rest of their years in public would be mental health institutions.

Sounds like a curse for any offspring to even begin. The original group would have been better off to not even start such a program. If I was offered such an option, I would choose to stay above ground and forget the vault.

Vault 68 is need of birth of girls due to having a single woman in existence, There might be less inbreeding since men can still be fertile up to their 70's. So when the girls reach adult hood they have unrelated men to mate with. If the woman only gives birth to boys or died before she is menopaused, it is screwed. Some men might also kill each other because of jealousy.

In case of Vault 69 , The single existing man, should prevent romancing any of the woman. Impregnate them with artificial insemination. The women close to menopause should be the first mothers. I think romancing a single woman might cause jealousy among them, so he should just impregnate them artificially. The chance of inbreeding is very higher chance here.

Some of the Vaults of Fallout are normal and have happy people but many of them became messed up. These 2 I think are 2 of the most messed up examples.

It seems like Vault 69 has the highest chance of surviving, as a single man could potentially impregnate several women in one week, where the single woman can only get impregnated by one man every 9 months. Also, if a single woman was just a constant breeding machine, getting pregnant almost as soon as she had given birth, it would end up killing her in the long run.

If I were a woman in Vault 68 (or if I'm being honest, in any of the vaults) - I'd pray for death. Really the life you describe, living underground in vaults? It's not worth living. Also? Guess the game assumes everybody will stay healthy for 100 years?? The communities will be crime-less??? Everybody is all the same religion???? Etc. Etc. Forget about it. I'll go above ground and chance the effects of the radiation.

In the particular world described in the game, living above ground is almost a guaranteed death, and not a quick one.

That being said, I would hate to be the woman in Vault 68. I'm not sure I'd want to be the man in Vault 69 either. I don't think being the lone vault breeding stud would be any more fun than being the lone brood mare.

nuclear bombs. They are called Fallout shelters.

The original batch people who will get locked on the Vaults will all die there. It is their descendants who will have the chance to live above and free from Radiation. So yeah their job is too have great grandchildren healthy enough to get out of the vault after the century.

The Vaults have underground farms and Gardens thats why people managed to have food.

@fergus1234 - This is sort of related. We started watching a series on Netflix called "Ascension". It totally sucks. Instead people living in vaults underground, people were sent off on a 100-years mission to start life on another planet. The series is a really bad spin on "The Truman Show". In that movie the guy was on earth. In this series the people are floating somewhere in outer space. It starts off with murder. A girl was murdered. She was shot. It's a real mystery because when they were sent into space there weren't supposed to be any guns on the ship! If that's not enough, there's a little girl on the ship who says the planet they're going to doesn't have life and they should be going to a different planet. Who wants to believe a kid?

@cmoneyspinner That sounds like they are sent there to die. The plot of the show you talk about reminds me a bit of the show "the 100"

Most faultout Vaults are truly messed up but these are the most human sanity friendly vaults in the lore of Fallout:

yeah it will be tragic if a boy will be born because they needed women. I think 68 can survive if the men will go outside while wearing nuclear protection suites and try to find women outside.

One thing I notice, Male Athletes have tendencies to have daughters only. So I guess the sole female will only mate with athletes. Also to have more females, Some males will wear hazmat suits and and go outside the vault to find women who have survived the Nuclear wars.

In case of Vault 69, The sole male should not have romantic relationship with any woman until boys are born. He will artificially inseminate women who are unattractive and close to menopause so he wont have to deal with them again. Once we have boys reach puberty. That is when he will find a lover from some older women.


There is a movie now that have the Vault 68 situation. On this movie women died from a virus and the only survivor is Freida Pinto and men are killing each other to get her.



This movie is also a Vault 68 situation, A virus killed all women except from a little girl, A dad tried to disguise his daughter as a boy to protect her from all the men who wants her.
