Are online colleges good?

Postby Netherrealmer » 22 Oct 2018, 15:35

I know when it comes to children and teens, They said homeschool ones are smarter and have better confidence due to less bullying. I found out that there also online colleges now. I want to try online college since my Psychology degree is useless in my life. I can go back to a regular school but I want freedom of schedule. I am considering to try online college but I know it is all self study. There won't be any teachers at all. It is all ebooks and videos. I want to go back to college without the need of dealing with classmates again.

These days, I think online schools are better than before. They even have K-12 online in some areas now.

You definitely need to be a self-starter and know how to keep yourself motivated. I would also suggest doing some research, reading reviews, checking out job placement, etc.

I think like anything else, some are good, some not so much. I'd check deeper into the ones you're interested in to find out what others think. Make sure it's accredited, check pricing, see how many people finish, find jobs, and more.

Good luck.

Hey. I won't advise you to study online , because you might end up being confused and you won't know who to ask questions from, compared to having a lecturer, and you ask questions, besides don't you think self-study is annoying, because you won't have friends

When I was in college, the usual "idea" was 'go to school so you can get a good job.' And "being out there with fellow cellm--...classmates" was necessary because you were gonna have to "get out there and work with them."

At least, that was the popular notion. But I had a few father-figures (my grandfather, my sister's godmother's sister's husband, and maybe more) who were ... less-than-social, but who made good money as engineers who usually worked alone.

I guess people (both today and long ago) need to take a step back, see how they can best serve society, and move toward that accomplishment.

And if your 'online schooling' somehow fulfills that for you; it looks good-on-ya 8-)

Before there were online colleges my husband opted for Independent Study. Basically he got the class textbook and taught himself. He had to go in twice per semested to take exams. A professor was available to contact if he had any questions or needed clarification. My daughter is attending college online. It works for her. I am glad online colleges are available. I'm glad various methods are available now for people to get an education. Why shouldn't we use technology to bring education to the masses?

I already have all the friends I needed also I do not like the idea of being surrounded by teens. I am a millennial but I do not get along with teens.

I think it all depends on an individual everyone has tgeir opinion. But i tend to think its better being present in a class than being online that way at least you know its real.

Because education is more than just 'knowing- and applying-information.'

It's the reason why Christians take "it's written in The Bible" as 'it's proven beyond a reasonable doubt'---because 'it used to be'- (and in many cases it still is) that you couldn't get your writing approved for 'publication' (that is "putting it out in public," not necessarily "publishing") unless 1) it were proven true, 2) it was admittedly fictional (i.e. to be published in a novel or collection of short stories etc.) or 3) you were "an expert" (usually with certifications and/or university degrees).

i.e. "education" is more 'building the product & using it & selling it & repairing it & making copies of it' than it is 'drawing- and analyzing- and re-drawing the blueprints.'

In India graduation from Online college is not given preference by the Companies while offering jobs. For that matter even courses completed by correspondence are also not encouraged. So I would have given a second thought before attending any online colleges!
