If Twitter existed 100 years ago, What could have trended on those decades

Postby Netherrealmer » 23 Oct 2018, 09:53

Imagine if Twitter and social media existed 100 years ago. What do you think could have trended during those time.
I saw this video showing what if twitter existed in the 80's.

Here are my theories:

1910's Most likely the tweets will be about the World War one.

1930's People tweeting about Wizard of OZ and they will talk about how amazing it is to see a colored movie.

1940's I can see a lot of tweets about the crimes in World war 2. Anne Frank's diary might have been digital. I can see racist posts between 2 opposing sides. On the entertainment side of the spectrum Americans will be tweeting about the 999th Shirley Temple movie they had watched.

1970's. I can see Yoko Ono will be the most hates person on the internet because she is the reason why beatles broke up. ABBA will always trend on Sweden. I can expect a lot of memes about the Brady Bunch.

I will post my theories from other decades later.

What do you think could have trended on Twitter if it existed 100 years ago?

To answer this question, first pick a date and calculate 100 years backwards.
https://calculat.io/en/date/10-december ... /100/years

Next go to Google and put in “what happened on {that date}”
The first search result will probably be https://www.onthisday.com/date/1918/december/10

Out of the total of 3 significant events that occurred that day, I'm guessing this would have been trending.

Anne Gwynne [Marguerite Gwynne Trice], American model and actress (Ride 'em Cowboy, House of Frankenstein), born in Waco, Texas (d. 2003)

It would have been trending for me because I tend to pick “Texas” as one of my choices for “What's Trending”. :D

I love this question!

Well 100 years ago, Twitter would have been tweets from Germans and their rival Allied block about developments in WWI.
Or may be the war could have been averted if people were occupied in twitter- may be even soldiers.
Or a soldier in a Trench in WWI might have written "Freezing @Belgium front Food stocks depleted #warfront"
Or someone would have written "Seen a new means of transport - a four wheeled Motor Car #transport #Motorcar"

1990's

I think there will be a lot of hashtags about OJ Simpson.

Parents will be ranting about how Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are corrupting the Youth.

Lorena Bobbitt cutting her husband's manhood might have trended online.

Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan's controversy might have exploded on a crazier way.
