Facebook Moral-Police: A Profile is "Fake" if ...

Postby friendociate » 31 Oct 2018, 20:36

... if it's 'just there to sell pR0n,' but it's not "headline gratuitous nudity in scandalous poses" like the profiles I talk about 'why I report them' here).

I get friend-requests from some 'fake accounts' that are basically just a few 'PG13'-photos and a link to a pR0n-site. Nothing "wrong" with that content, except that it's the only content that profile displays! If it were the profile of "a real person," there would be more comments on daily life, more interaction with friends, and--the most telltale sign of 'being real' (on Facebook)--a filled-out About-page!

And if the profile fits 'that description' (not pR0n, but not any of the information a "real person" would provide), I 'mouse-over the "...", select "Report this profile" from the drop-down menu, and select "Fake Profile" from the 'reasons for reporting.'

Will you do the same when a fake profile tries to 'friend' you?

Facebook is nothing more nothing less than a tool to record data, all about you. A tool to manipulate masses believe it not, the same happens to Instagram, both were believe it not designed by the FBI and the military forces. You will see many things on Facebook that makes no sense, some are intentional, some are just left there to cause certain reactions from people and fake accounts and most of the time created by Facebook itself.

 Maybe, but that feels a little bit 'tin-foil hat'-ish  Image

No I don't bother. I usually just delete the request connection and move on. I can't really tell real from fake. But if it's a request from a stranger and I don't see where a connection would be of mutual benefit, the I click delete. Sometimes I click spam but not often. Sometimes the account looks like spam.

I have two FB accounts. One is personal and private and the other one is for online purposes. Whoever strangers want to add me as a friend either it's fake or not it's okay. After all I am not a celebrity or famous so no one interested to bother me. :D

Facebook has been a cave to all trollers and fake profiles who won't dare to say a word with their real identities..

But for some of us it's the only place we can 'be real' :(

When the cancer in your body 'metastasizes' (latches onto an organ and starts to feed & grow), would you rather 'cut it off' or 'just let it finish sucking the life out of you?'

Because that's the choice you're making when you see one of these "fake" accounts and 'just ignore it.'

I honestly don't know if the account is fake. I remember when I was new on Facebook I was reported either as spamming or my account being spam. It really ticked me off! Sure I was new to Facebook and didn't quite know what I was doing. Guess I made some mistakes trying to make new friends or share links. But I certainly wasn't there to spam anybody! Fortunately for me, Facebook gave me the opportunity to prove that I was a real person.

I think about that before I click the button to report an account. If it doesn't look blatantly OBVIOUS and I'm not sure then I don't report it. I give the account holder the benefit of the doubt, on the off chance that the person might be just like me when I first started on Facebook.

I have done this quite some time. Facebook is already losing it's charm and this kind of thing make facebook worst.. I think not only on facebook, but in every social media sites, there should be some kind of verification so that this "fake account" thing will die forever. I hope this will happen someday!!

Actually I have not used Facebook for many months now. Instagram is far better than Facebook these days and I am using it more than any other social site.I Have heard that Google and Facebook is on a fake profile deleting drive these days which is a very good thing which should have been done much earlier.

And that's the door the scam-artists slip through ... that was the same kind of thought I had when some girl on there was telling me 'the hardship she went through when her father--a wealthy Nigerian investor--passed away and left her a vast fortune she needed an American's bank-account to access so she could come marry me & we would be wealthy together  '

My dad knew 'of course she's lying' (probably not even a "she"), but I gave them "the benefit of the doubt"---luckily, there wasn't any money in my bank-account to begin with
