I notice that to get publicity the videogame company capcom try to boost sales from people who are not their fans is to anger existing fans. When old fans gets offended and complain, it will get the attention of people who are not fans and buy the game while the fans are angry but will buy it anyway while hating it.

The fans of the video game series Resident evil, had been wishing for 20 years to Remake Resident evil 2. I love that game in Ps1. It is my childhood. Resident evil 2 is the most beloved game of the series because it managed to balance horror and action.

In the game Resident evil 2, you will either play as Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop and Claire Redfield a teen college girl looking for her missing brother. The 2 will have separate adventures on zombie infested city.



I love this game so when I heard it will have a remake I was excited. My childhood is like happy with nostalgia then they decided to freaking redesign them and replace their voice actors.



They redesigned Claire because they think, her wearing shorts is impractical in fighting zombies. They think her outfit is unrealistic.... The last time I check, Most teenage girls back in the 90's which this game is set in loves wearing shorts.

Fans are upset that they make her wear conservative jacket and jeans instead of t-shirt ,vest and shorts. To compromise the angry fans they promise to give Claire fans an option to make her wear her classic outfit.

They bring back Claire's shorts but removed her T-shirt...Oh she have cleavage now.



Fans are angry again because what they want is this Claire:


Then Capcom snaps back to fans that they thought that fans wanted a sexier Claire. Why are they still upset...

Claire's original design wears shorts but she doesn't look like a prostitute. she looks like a college girl on her teens. Claire fans wanted the Claire from their childhood, not this feminist friendly conservative Jacket one and not this prostitute looking one. Fans dont mind Claire having sexier costume options as alternate costume but they want the Classic Claire to be an option.

My guess is the Classic Claire with T-shirt under her vest will be a paid dlc fans will have to pay money for.

Character costumes use to be free but now fans will pay money to get what they want....

I know Capcom intentionally angers the fans so they will pay money for the actual classic design of Claire. My hype for this remake just died down because they are using fan anger to make younger people get curious to buy their game. Video Game companies don't care about their older fans who made them rich in the first place.

I love this videogame company but they kept angering their old fans for marketing and publicity.

I was thinking of a way to defend them but I was unsuccessful. First I said they were probably responding to complaints about the type of outfit they chose for Claire. And by adjusting it they would make everyone more comfortable. Then I took a closer look at these details and came to the conclusion that it is indeed for marketing. It comes down to this: It's not so much about gaining new fans or angering loyal fans as it is about making sales. Marketing is not wrong or is it? I really don't know. Lol.

I guess fans wanted to see it as 'clear-cut good vs. evil' or something, and it's turning into too realistic a story (where the bad guy's "a good guy who got hurt & was turned to the dark side" rather than 'just purely evil in order to be the bad guy')'

Another big anger marketing a videogame company did is Devil May cry.

This is Dante, he is the protagonist of the devil may cry series. He is a badass, he is cool, He is a half human, half demon bounty hunter who kills demons. He likes to use sword and guns when he fight demons and he loves eating Pizza and Strawberry sundaes.




The girls loves him and the boys wanted to be him. He is one of the most popular characters of the Ps2 era....Dante is this complete badass who have some silliness and wit on him.

Then out of nowhere Capcom decided to reboot Dante and turn him into this.


He is turned into this annoying bratty teenager who smokes marijuana and curses a lot just to show how edgy he is. He looks like someone from Twilight.

Dante's creator is Japanese and they made some British guy takeover this character.

He made him look like him.

Capcom received a lot of complaints from fans that they want the old Dante back....

So they decided to make the original Dante return but he is now literally old.

I agree. If you're fighting flesh eating creatures or people who plan to rip up your skin you want to wear as much protective clothing as possible. I watched "King Arthur" which starred Clive Owen and Keira Knightley. Yeah. It's supposed to be medieval England which made her costume look even more ridiculous.

A lot of videogame companies intentionally do that because apparently controversies get sales. Fans who complained for feeling betrayed will still buy the game anyway while casuals who are not fans will be intrigued to buy.

Sometimes certain tactics work- some do not. May be the Series Managers do take into account the negative impact if any moves do not fall in place ?

One of the reasons why they dont listen to fans, they think it will be predictable if they always listen. Sometimes though predictable is not bad.
