The "What The ..."-Files: What's the Deal with "Quick Clean," CCleaner?

Postby friendociate » 06 Nov 2018, 16:18

I use CCleaner--a free 'disk-cleaning' (i.e. file-deleting) program--to keep my hard-drive fairly clean (similar to 'changing the oil' in a car ... except I 'CClean' a little more-often :ugeek: ).

Recently, they've been having me 'beta test' a new feature they're adding to future updates (and it's weird how they're doing that ... I'll talk about that in an upcoming post.)

But something weird happens: the program opens on the new feature's page--which they call "Quick Scan"--and I push the 'AnaIyze'-button to see if my drive is 'dirty' enough to need to be cleaned (which I do if the anaIysis shows there are at least 5Mb of "junk files").

The anaIysis shows that there are only 5Mb of junk-files, so I click the 'Clean'-button. Then when the CCleaner finishes, it tells me it cleared away 18Mb of junk!

What the --

oh ... I think I know what it might be.

See, what happens is; I usually start CCleaner right before I 'put my computer in Sleep-mode and go eat breakfast or lunch or go to the store or a group-meeting or something. So 'what might've happened' is that the computer does some weird 'save everything and shift around some files and sleep' thing when I put it in Sleep-mode ... :?

I have a much simpler approach, whenever I am going to be away from the computer I initiate a Run Cleaner command, then turn off the monitor. When I get back, I run the Scan Register command and Fix any problems found. Very little time is lost and my computer is always cleaned from all the junk I pick up while surfing ads.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.
