POLL: Which is Best for College Student: Mobile or Laptop?

Postby cmoneyspinner » 09 Nov 2018, 05:37

My daughter will start attending college next year. For Christmas I wanted to give her a laptop. My other daughter says she needs a phone. Which should I get her first? The laptop or the phone? :?:

I would suggest a phone first though I feel that both might be needed eventually. Phone can serve as a laptop for some time as it can be used for typing, notemaking . Internet browsing etc and can help make call and stay connected. Phone is also easier to carry. Laptops are not so convenient for call making whereas phones are not a good option for typing and project work. So if she already has a phone that can serve to make call and browse Internet, Laptop would be the right choice.

I'd have to say the mobile phone. A mobile phone is essential in making phone calls, sending text messages, etc. (especially during emergency cases) Also, you can use a mobile phone to do some research online, install applications for learning, etc.

Imagine writing a 5 page thesis with a mobile phone touch screen. Mobile phones are cheaper so they are easier to afford I guess save for a laptop first for projects reasons.

I suggest laptop. Much more useful than phone.

Question: How old is she?
For me college come after high school, 19, 20 year old people. Am I right?

She's 17 now but will be 18 when she graduates. I wanted to make the laptop a Christmas gift. :D

What about a calling tablet? I think that will solve her purpose perfectly! Most college students and professionals are completely satisfied with a tablet for its versatility.

Thank you for this recommendation. Didn't know there was such a thing as a calling tablet. I'm going to check prices and features. This really sounds good!

I think "Calling Tablet" sounds a little different but I recommend to go for a Samsung or iPad with wi-fi+ Cellular facility. There is vast range of such products coming from Lenovo, Ausus, and other reputed companies which serve the purpose of calling+project work for students and professionals. All the best to your daughter for her 18th Birthday

Both of them have a great role in college students. Laptop is for voluminous or copious works while for easy and handy task, mobile phone is practical. Laptop though a bit heavy compared to mobile phone but it could do a bigger job of writing, printing, among others.

Well as a gift, mobile phone is well recommended if you consider my suggestion.

I think the laptop would be better suited. You might already have a mobile for the kid when they enter the college.
