Wait for at least 3 three years before buying a triple A title aka mainstream game after it launches. Usually three years after a game is launched, A complete edition is released. The complete edition not only sold for a cheaper price, the DLC and extra costumes or levels are added for free.

I regret Buying Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and it's DLC...only to find out an "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3" was released years later complete with everything.

Sometimes games also have the "game of the year" edition with new content released years after the game is launched.

That is good advice and it can save money but who can wait 3 years? If it's 3 month than ok, but 3 years is long time and for true followers is to long time for wait.

The relaunched editions of games usually have new players, so you will still have some people to play online with. I use to play games on launch but newly launched ones are usually barebones and full of bugs.
