Fantasy based designs vs realistic designs

Postby Netherrealmer » 03 Jan 2019, 10:55

Recently there is debate for between video game fans. Some fans believes characters should have realistic and relatable characters.

There is a saying sex sells so many video game main characters looks sexy.

So these people think Vigilantes should not look like Cole Mcgrath and Jake Wesker

They think they should look like Trevor from GTO V

The 1st 2 characters are modeled after models while the latter is designed after a middle aged ugly guy.

They think female British soldiers should not look like Cammy from Street Fighter,

They think they should be fully covered like the women from Battlefield:

Unrealistic character designs tends to make the characters super good looking, young and show a lot of skin. Realistic character designs, tends to be ugly and shows less skin.

Do you prefer fantasy looking characters or the edgy realistic characters?

I prefer both... ;)
Unfortunately we live in societies where people tend to valorize physical aspects more than psychological or personality traits.
We can see the reflex of that, for instance, in almost all movies, where the main character is always good looking ;)
Nowadays games are really like movies, so they are only repeating the same...
In my opinion, good looking characters or not, showing or hidding body parts... it depends of the story line.

Depends on the game, I guess. I prefer realistic games like Battlefield, others prefer Fortnite. If you swapped the characters round, both games would be... different.

I will be honest I love fantasty based designs.
I do not like reality, I play video game to escape reality not pretend I am back in it.
However I guess it is fun to do bad things in reality games, that you could not do in real life
Like in GTA etc lol.

If it's part some special unit or undercover work, than she should not be dressed like classic soldier. Depends on her role in game.

That is her uniform though. In the Street Fighter Universe that is how female British army members dress like.

If it's another universe, than we can't compare it with this one.

What matters is the character looks cool. Realistic characters tends to be bland

Cammy is one of my favorite video game characters ever. Ever since playing Super Street Fighter 2 as a young child at the Arcade I really liked her. I miss those days of a bunch of people getting together going out for pizza and arcades. I need to go to an arcade again soon.

Most impractical videogame character designs.
VII Durge of Cerberus.

Dude is fighting while wearing a straight Jacket and lets a Robot Arm does the fighting for him. Why dont you just use your actual hands dude.

S and M Mickey mouse Kingdom hearts. Mickie goes kinky.

Rachel Foley , Resident evil revelations. Rachel is an agent who was sent to a mission to investigate a monster and zombie infested ship with this hairstyle and outfit.

Image

No wonder she died on this game, How the heck will you aim a gun against monsters and zombies with that hair.

i don't mind them having "realistic" looking characters, but it gets a bit too much when every single character is now LGBT....

ummm only 1 out of 100 characters is LGBT. Like for example in Mortal Kombat the only LGBT character is Kung-jin which is a single person. Or in Street fighter the only LGBT is Poison and in Tell Tale walking dead you have a choice whether Clementine will be straight or LGBT. Not every single character is LGBT, they are still minority.

Fans are now debating about the redesign of the Samurai Showdown character Charlotte Christine Colde.

Samurai Shodown is a fighting game set in Feudal Japan and French Revolution France.
Female Knights looks like this:

Charlotte have a very historically accurate design

Now The producers say "F realism and historical accuracy"

The Armor on her legs are and thighs are replaced by bootie shorts and thigh high stockings. Some funs liked the change because she looks prettier and sexier because she is originally androgynous and masculine due to her armor. Some fans are offended because no woman dresses like that in French revolution nor Feudal Japan.

For horror and gore games, many hardcore gamers will prefer more realistic designs. While the medieval or games with dragons, robots, shooting or role playing will prefer fantasy ones.

Historical games are sometimes becoming unrealistic. I mean there is a game set in medieval England where a woman wears mini skirt. I dont really mind fantasy based designs as long as it fits the character
