Sometimes it is your anti-virus that slows down your computer

Postby Netherrealmer » 07 Jan 2019, 08:44

I remember my bad experience with Avira antivirus years ago. It kept asking me to update instead of updating silently in the background. It slows down my computer and it accuses my games as viruses. It is also almost impossible to uninstall. It's like a clingy ex who don't want to break up with you.

I have a great experience with 360 security but recently I decided to not use it because it has ads.

I decided to try Zonealarm anti-virus. Guess what this antivirus sucks. I thought my computer is just old and rusty but it is the one the slows down my all along. Its super extremely paranoid security freezes all news sites I visit because it is being too suspicious it has virus. I thought my problems with skype is from my ISP or skype but it is the one that slows down my pc and internet connection all along.

It also blocks me from making skype calls and receiving skype calls for my protection. After uninstalling it. My pc is running like brand new.

Well, yes. Some antivirus softwares are over sensitive. They block sites with JavaScript, mark harmless apps as malware, and much more. Some of them, ironically, have malicious ads as well.

Antivirus programs have addons for web browser and they can eat to much memory. Remove those addons if you have them.

As far as I know, sometimes, my lappy gets slower and I think it is because of the low network coverage of my wifi!! I did not know anti-virus can be the reason too!

Very truth and this got worse with Windows 10 because of Windows defender, it causes a lot of conflits with anti-virus and that was one of the reasons I changed to Linux. I remember I tried several anti-virus and with all of them I had problems because of Windows defender.

It took me an eternity to figure out how to disable Windows defender. It refuses to be disabled.

Most of those come with Antivirus and installation is in basic settings. You need to change settings before installation antivirus software or remove it manually from browser.

Just find an antivirus that dont interrupt with your activities. I like 360 security for that reason. I am annoyed it has ads but it doesn't slow down my pc and connection.

AVG free has worked well for me. Not as annoying as some of the others, including Avast, that I've used in the past.

As long as you remember to keep one installed and updated. Cyber crime and malware is a profitable game for some.
