Would you let your kids get education via online school?

Postby hunkmenlordy » 06 Feb 2019, 21:11

It's hit and miss really. Online private tutor can give personalised attention and help you focus on your weak points, whereas in class a teacher has to go by the general consensus, and so the class's weak points. They also can provide extra material to help consolidate your learning and be there for you for any extra questions you may have and support which you're hesitant asking in school.

Money's an issue, but if you feel you need extra support, it could be seen as a beneficial investment. Generally good to go to a tutor in your area which is locally renowned and has a good success rate.

If you find a good tutor then it will be worth it in the short term in terms of understanding the subject and better grades. Thinking about it, the problem with tutors is that they prop up students who are struggling and it distorts their academic ability*.

I think it's beneficial if you're not getting the help from your teachers. However, it would be more rewarding to do it by yourself .

No, I would not. Kids don't need only knowledge. They need real friends. Socialization is important for kids. I would online tutor only for Extra explanation, but I think state schools are best for kids.

it's hard to say because personally I hated school but as mentioned, one of the main reasons for schooling is for the socializing and cooperation aspect. Even in primitive times I think kids were grouped together and taught topics. I'm not sure I agree about having to study a range of things though, personally if a kid hates maths then why does he have to study maths throughout his entire childhood? Generally, even from a young age kids know what they like. I liked programming even when I was 6 years old, so it was pretty obvious I was going to do a job related to that.

The best place to get bullied, learn how to smoke, learn how to take drugs and learn how to rebell. Traditional school.

I agree. School is where you make friends. But I have learned from raising my own kids to Never say "Never". I always thought they would go the traditional route but circumstances in our live occurred and I had to find "non-traditional" ways to make sure they were educated. So while I would prefer the traditional method of education, I am really glad alternative methods such as online classes are available.

My son had an online tutor for math, earlier. I didn't personally like the guy's way of teaching , I tried a couple of others and finally decided that enough is enough. Now I get a private tutor to come home and help him out twice a week. I am open to the idea but I am not sure about the quality at the moment.

In the USA people choose to homeschool for mainly two reasons. One reason is the corrupting influence you mention like picking up the bad habit of smoking or worse ... drugs! Many make the choice because they believe the school curriculum goes against their religious beliefs and they don't want their child being taught a different set of values.

The next reason some are opting for homeschooling is MASS SHOOTINGS! They just don't believe their child is safe. Can you blame them for this unnecessary worry. It's a problem that can be solved but it's not being solved.

I feel online education has both pros and cons - which you have already mentioned. I would surely like my kid go to school where he/she could take primary education. For the specialised training, I would prefer a blend of classroom tutoring, online tutoring and on-site practical training.

Tradition education have more cons:

1. Your kids will have terrible taste in music
2.Peer pressure
3.Bullying
4.Kid will rebel to fit in
5.Kid will be materialistic because they will want to follow trends.
6.Many teachers are abusive
7.School shooting (for Americans only)
8.Cafeteria food lacks nutrition
9.too many kids in the classroom means many kids are not paid attention by their teacher.
10.Stress inducing activities like Homework (according to a latest study, it doesn't benefit the student)
11.curriculum is very dated and wont prepare them for the real world.
12. Forced to do activities you don't like being mandatory.

I will quit listing because I realize this better be an article.

Tradition education in public school have this benefits:
- more different friends
- learn in bigger groups
- see some other oppions (doesn't have to be friends)
- see many different people
- different teachers (they are not all bad if the work in public school)

Yes and one is able to learn and develop social skills as well.

Education via Online school ought to be a supplement for main education via classroom schooling. I do not think it should altogether substitute it. If kids are just studying online, they would not learn to behave properly in social spaces, and learn to deal in groups or explain things verbally, which we have to do sometime or other in our daily lives, except for a scenario in which we get to the point of a total Robotic like existence in next few years or may be a decade.

The thing is social skills can be learned outside school. Many people assume that Homeschooled kids have no social skills but they do play outside and meet kids in the neighborhood and a study said kids are better behaved when they are near their home, so neighbors makes better friends because their parents are always around.

Also they do meet other children in playgrounds or Special skills lesson like sports clinics or music instrument lessons.

Online education and traditional education both have their perks and demerits.. but I will choose traditional education anytime over online education because I know the importance of having a good social skill..

Again, Many homeschooled kids have social skills because they are more aggressive when it comes to making friends. The Homeschool kids have no social skill myth is just propaganda of traditional schools and parents who wanted a 10 hour free time away from their kids.

As long as you let your kids go outside, they will have social skills. There is also an association of homeschooled kids so there are many meetups.

Firstly, I am not going to marry. If I adopt kids, I will let them learn via online school.
