Existence of Whatsapp in India is under threat

Postby kanchan18 » 10 Feb 2019, 15:16

Govt. of India is mulling a possibility to stop fake information from spreading may seriously. Affect Whatsapp's user privacy. Whatsapp uses an end to end encryption which means only the sender and receiver can see the messages and not even whatsapp.
Now Govt is asking whatsapp to come up with a technology that can trace the origin of those fake news.
Whatsapp in a communication said that it would require them to re-architect of the product which may jeopardise the very existence of whatsapp in India.
Should Govt do this. What do you say.

There are a lot of problems within the system, will the government modify the system for the benefit of the society? We don't see that kind of thing happening. Whatsapp is a foreign company and they are targeting this just because they are not making money.

Whatever one says about privacy getting affected, etc, etc, spreading of fake news, scaremongering, hatred-ridden speeches, etc certainly does lot of harm and Government needs to find out some ways to stop the menace.

I don't think there is any move by government of India to stop or ban Amazon, Flipkart or WhatsApp or Twitter and Facebook etc. The only thing is that the government want them all to follow certain rules and all the companies have assured our government to abide by the rules of the land.

One reason for this is spreading fake news and circulating rumors.

Dhruv Rathee and NDTV seems to be champion at the fake news and they seem to be spreading a lot of paranoia in the news. I am not surprised that left wing is going this to spread the news about bans.

I think Whatsapp will leave India or be banned from it than allow such attack on privacy. Will India goverment ask Facebook same thing (owner of Whatsapp)?

For me privacy is important. If the government wishes unencrytion on whatsapp, they should banned in their country. Fake news is everywhere. We should know how to weigh it from real news.

This doesn't sound convincing because fake news is everywhere, that's means very maybe all social media will be banned to avoid incoming fake news. But this news emanate from humans not the app itself.
