Do you still remember life before Internet?

Postby Netherrealmer » 11 Mar 2019, 08:23

If you a missed an episode of your favorite tv show you wont be able to watch it unless someone recorded it or there will be a rerun of that episode 3 years from now.

You can only play multiplayer in video game home consoles if you have a friend who is with you on the same room.

You have to make a long distance phone call that is very expensive per minute if you want to talk with someone who is currently abroad or on a very far province.

All of your friends are real life people you can touch in person.

If you want to watch a naughty video, You have to do the embarrassing task of going inside an adult video store where people can see you and judge you if they saw you buying something.

Yes, I really remember that days! :) And sometimes I miss them. Nowadays I don't do certain things that I used to do, like read books, for example... and because my spare time is all spent online ;)

I also remember the days that I used the computer without internet. I used windows 3.1. In that days I used to write in word, used some drawing softwares and had some games, espetially point and click games (that's why I love that kind of games so much).

I have only been using the Internet for the last 24 years. That is substantially less than half my life. Most of my fondest memories are of times long before anyone heard of the internet.

I do recall a time back in the early 1970s when some employees of a large company in my hometown were talking about this thing called email. They were using that way back then for communications to all their company offices around the world. I had no idea what they were talking about.

I bought my first home computer in 1980 but had to upgrade before I could access the Internet. Back then, I could only connect to various chatroom type forums. Email was not generally available to the general public until around 1990 when AOL was a big player to introduce the internet to the world via dial-up service. I finally signed up in 1995 and never looked back. There have been more changes just since then than everything that had come before that time.

It is amazing to even think that high school grads since around 2000 never knew life "BI" (Before Internet) and now their kids have all graduated.

You're perfectly true. When internet was still new and not yet reached my province I thought I can live without it. But when I learned the uses of internet, I think I can't live without it.

Yes back then people used to talk more face to face. And people would go outside more.
That is what I liked. What i love about the net, is now I can be lazy and get paid to play video games and just relax and still make money.

it's funny to think we're the last generation to know the days before the net. I think the internet came along when I was around 10yrs old, but even so it wasn't used for much other than email for a few years after, and it was the slowest thing ever and took about a minute just to load a simple email screen.

Oh Lord, I do but can't seem to remember how we filled time! I mean, whenever my internet is down, I feel like murdering someone  I wouldn't want to ever go back to those times because as I'm sure most people will agree with me, the internet has become a basic necessity.

I remember the days when I had to set my vcr video cassette recorder to record my favorite shows. I would watch them and then save them for years until the tapes wore out. then it was a dvr. Now I can watch shows on you tube or some other online streaming site. :)

Watch regular TV/movies on VCR or CDs, read books, play outside with friends, play board or card games with family, going out to town with family or friends, doing house chores.

These were my past time before the internet. My love for books (hardcopy, not ebooks) is still the same. I'll always find time to just relax and read. Family dinner means no scrolling on the phone while eating. My nephew has a bad habit of watching the TV and looking at his phone at the same time. I'll always switch off the TV when he does that.

Life was simple, less complicated and we had more time for people and other hobbies. Our minds was not taxed by so much information processing as it is now. Friends would actually talk to you not send you a retarded message as they do now.
Families had more time together and teens were not so preoccupied with their gadgets so much.

i think the best part about the internet is that we can get info about anything instantly, but it has deteriorated human relationships

Hmm. Yea I do. Judging from life with internet, I can say that life without internet was a lot more fun than now. One may not understand from my point of view but that's just it.

I don't think I can survive without internet even for a day  To think that when I was a kid I could survive without watching the TV for days - I read books, play with friends, etc.

When the power goes down or my internet starts playing up, I feel so miserable I just don't know what to do with myself. Obviously, we did ok without it before we experienced it because you can't miss what you've never had. Now I really couldn't live without the internet!
