Do you upgrade your laptop?

Postby ceci » 03 Apr 2019, 09:43

I have a laptop in i3 and 2G RAM, really can't stand with the slow speed it is when I doing browsing online, thus chose to take out the DVD, spared the space for a SSD harddisc, 128G and extra 2G RAM.

It costed me about USD50 today. It worth it, my laptop runs faster now! :P

Do you choose to upgrade your laptop or will use it until it fails?

I use a desktop instead of a laptop but I do have plans of having one so I can use computers during blackouts. I want laptops with at least a 12 hour battery.

Recently I did the same with my laptop. However, I didn't take out my DVD. I put my SSD into HDD place and my HDD in a 2,5" case (it's used like my backup hard drive, via usb).
I noticed some difference, but my PC is a I7 and I upgraded to 8GB of RAM. I believe you will notice some difference, also. :)
Good luck! Now you have to install a new operative sysytem and all your programs (the boring work)

I just bought a new chromebook over the christmas holiday. well it was a gift from my wife but i got it using my amazon credits. I will buy a new laptop in due time just to get the windows operating system back. If I get enough credits I might get a desktop. I have an old windows 8 laptop but I don't want to put anything into it

I normally aim for desktop be upgraded rather than laptop. And mostly, in laptop it is just the RAM that you can add and very limited as well. In desktop, depends on your motherboard can install several RAMs and graphic cards.

My laptop is 6+ years old now. It has a pretty decent processor (for the time anyway) but only had 8gb of RAM and had a standard 5400rpm HDD. Over the years I upgraded the memory (now 16gb) and added a SSD to replace the HDD. It still functions well and pretty fast. Having a few issues though with Windows 10 updates. Only just managed to upgrade to Windows 10 1809 because I was having issues with the graphics driver. It wouldn't load (meaning I was stuck at full brightness) unless I disabled Memory Integrity which took me ages to find out about this workaround. Only found it through Reddit from someone having a similar issue - https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comm ... _1809_and/ Loads of other people are having the same issue but I never saw a solution that worked (if you can even call it a solution) until recently.

Getting to the point I am think I need to buy a new laptop though.

It would be better to upgrade it from time to time to keep it in good shape and condition

I7 is superior fast, doesn't fit your requirement? 8GB is a must for current working environment. Will go for it one day later.
I am happy with the current condition of my laptop after upgrading, I should go for it earlier. :P

I have two laptops. One with SSD and second with HDD. I think I will upgrade SSD in second laptop. I will Search SSD with 256GB and 500MB/s speed.

I heard the SSD doesn't last long, it could be within 2-3 years time, thus I didn't opt of the higher capacity one and one more thing is I don't have many images or graphic files with me.

I'll consider upgrading my laptop to SSD in the near future. For now, my i3 HDD 8gb (was only 4gb until I installed additional 4gb memory myself) RAM laptop works fine. What I really want is a better graphics card but I'm not sure if I can easily upgrade it - the card might be inbuilt to the motherboard.

upgrade laptop is always the best, sometimes you try to install a new software which might be demanding for new upgrade, in time of speed and space

Instead of upgrading the old one I prefer to save more money and buy a new one. This makes me feel good about having an upgraded gadget.

I never upgraded any of the laptops that i've owned. When it gets broke we buy new one but never upgraded cause it takes too much time.

Time is not problme. Most often they don't have slots for upgrade aditional RAM or something else. Lately I see people remove optical part to add SSD drive.

Upgrading a laptop is limited to adding memory and changing your hard drive. Just like what you did. If I need power, I'd go for a desktop,
