Android users, have you tried typing with your voice?

Postby Netherrealmer » 16 Apr 2019, 09:30

if you look at the screenshot below you will see on my touchscreen keyboard there is a microphone button and if you use that microphone button, you will have the ability to type with your voice and i am using it right now. it's a bit hard to you because i cannot use capital letters when i needed to and sometimes it cannot understand what i am saying i'm not also able to use punctuations. it's not super reliable but it can be useful if you are too lazy to type .

the thunder points out where you can find on your on screen keyboard the microphone button is .if you have an injury or you're just too lazy to type it can be useful for using forums or commencing in social network but you cannot rely on it when it comes to punctuation grammar and capitalization grammar

I've tried that. Didn't like it and it's actually more time-consuming for me. Unless my fat fingers are seriously injured, I'll probably try the mic function again.

It is only able to recognize standard american accent. my only reason to use it is that i am resting my :D fingers. it doesn't understand my natural accent

I would like to have this. I notice in a few chatroom trivia games that people must use this as no one can type that fast.

i use the reader on the iphone to browse forums sometimes, once you get the hang of it it's quick and is esp useful when your hands are tired.

I have tried it but it was not east at all. Just as people have pointed out, the main reason is accent. More over, I type fast with my finger. Holding my phone nearer to my mouth in order to use microphone to type may make me look insane especially when am in area where people don't know about microphone. Finally, lack of ability to punctuate with it, is another reason why I don't use it.

Why oh why? I know you told us what to look for in the screenshot but why is it that the microphone button was not the first thing I saw? Lol, you are something else. Oh well, no I haven't tried using that feature with my device. I'd probably consider it if I get sick and too weak to type the words.

LOL, yes and it was horrible. Not a single word was typed correctly and I think that my droid broke after that.

Well I dont want to pay money on that department. Back to the topic the lack of capitalization and punctuation is the biggest flaw for me. I wont be owning an Alexa for this

:) Yea, not being able to punctuate properly would drive me crazy. Maybe they'll come up with a feature where you speak a code word for whatever punctuation you need. That would be cool!

Hmm..I decided to use one of those free apps since I can't type to save my life and boy it was terrible. I realized that I didn't have the patience to work with the app and decided to just type instead. I know a guy who totally depends on a paid app and uses it to write novels. He churns out huge volumes of digital pages everyday.

I noticed some Gen z teens and adults are now used with dictation. They let their Alexa do all the typing. Its not really something I am into due to the damn computer struggling a bit with my diction.

I am absolutely aware of this. This is only suitable for search queries or some SMS or whatsapp texting.

My American accent have improved recently so I can type with my voice now. This one is typed by Android's google voice dictation.

I have tried a few free apps they are much better, but I don't have that kind of patience to sit and train the system before it gets used to my accent.

I use it all the time and fixing punctuation or spelling just takes getting used to. I put my cursor just before where I want to add or delete anything and fix it by typing the new content or using the delete on the pop-up keyboard.

-- 11 Oct 2019, 14:24 --

Thanks for posting this, Because it got me wondering if I could use it on windows 10 .

I am imputing this by using voice instead of the keyboard and just using a keyboard to insert punctuation.

By using the combination it makes it simpler to edit and I can format it the way I want to.

Correction is easier too and I can even use my spell check

I'm going to play around with this and see if I can get better and thanks again

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.
