I think it may work if I/we do it immediately on realizing the mistake done.

Well here is what I do.
Suppose I sent someone a message :
Hi here is the andwer to your question.
So I immediately realize that andwer is a wrong spelling
So in next line, I sent :
*answer
As simple as that!
