China's social rating system, A scary dystopian 1984 meets Nosedive

Postby Netherrealmer » 28 Jun 2019, 09:33

China is now going to digitally score their citizens. Most Chinese cities will now have Facial recognition CCTV cameras that will watch every move of each citizen. Citizens will be scored based on their behavior.

You will gain points if you follow traffic rules and you will lose points if you do traffic violations like Jaywalking, littering ,Smoking on non smoking area etc.

Oh your social behaviors will be scored too. If you are polite to everyone, buys made in China Products, talks about how you love living in China you will get points.

If you talk too loud, curses like a Sailor and have no manners you will lose points.

Your purchases will be scored too, If you buy nutritious foods, Made in China products, diapers, school supplies and educational books approved by the government you will get points.

If you buy imported products, Junk foods, video games, alcohol and sweets you will lose points.

Your Social media behaviors gets points too. They said social media influencers are likely to get points.

Oh your fellow citizens can give you scores too, With your trusty smartphone. If someone annoys you with their annoying singing in a Karaoke bars, you can simply scan that person's profile and give them a low score.

People with low scores won't be allowed to go outside China, enroll their kids at private schools, enter restaurants and establishments meant for high scored people,Ride a bus or a train and buy houses in suburbs or high end condos. Finding a job will be hard too if you are a low scored person.

If a high scored person gives you low scores you will get a double whammy.

-----

This is a scene from Nosedive, A high scored woman loses all her privilege in one day after a string of bad luck caused people to give her low scores.

It will be implemented in China in 2020. Chinese citizens are actually supportive on this dystopian technology.

Either this will make people behave respectfully towards each other or it will backfire. Since people (regular citizens) with high scores can give you bad score if you 'annoy' them then I could see that being abused. Unless of course there is some system in place against that. Like, who makes the final decision on what's annoying? Can you imagine getting a bad score for interrupting someone when they're talking? Even without approval I'm already giving bad scores for that one :D Hope the system works for the good of all.

It can be badly abused, a circle of friends can simply give each other high points to keep themselves secure. A circle of friends and families can gang up on a single person.

People will get disowned by family and friends if they suddenly become a low pointer. The government might abuse the system and give negative points to their critics. At least the division won't be rich and poor anymore, it will be between high pointers and low pointers.

If you are a low pointer you will have life worst than a criminal.

This encourages crabs in the bucket mentality. Also people without smartphones cannot give someone points.

Very much so. It looks destined to create a whole lot more problems than it will solve. And if you are a low score person who wants to leave it all to them you can't even get a flight out :?: :?

The rich people can also bribe people to give them high points. Or a rich person might lose everything after jealous people makes a negative points attack.

I'm wondering how they will handle the businesses (or business owners) importing goods to sell to others. Since the buyers (regular people) will lose points if they buy these things will the sellers (those who import 'bad' things) lose points too? And those who make it possible for things not made in China to come into the country, will they lose points too?

Most likely, but they might bribe some people to give them points. I can see the rich buying points so they wont get to the bottom because if a rich person become a bottom tier they will lose everything

Aside from the digital scoring, they now hired some people to do the scoring of their neighbors. I bet people treats this woman like a Goddess because she can mess up their lives.

The cops uses Google glass to recognize people and score them

...but he said the citizens are supportive of the technology so maybe there's more to it. @Fergus1234 that clip you showed is quite interesting. Usually we see what is about to come in these movies (like a programming). Everything I see now, I saw in Star Trek before.

The people who are supportive of it thinks it should happen to discipline people so there will be less pollution or violence. A man lost a lot of points after beating his wife. His neighbors negged him to death. I do not want to live in a world like this though. I had seen Nosedive and it shows how terrible this can be.

Oh China finally released an English explanation for their points system:

Cheating and spamming projectiles against people in online videogames can lose you lotsa points.

Much of it seems ridiculous. Did they also give explanations on how they will determine when someone's apology is insincere? Or they don't need to explain?

Not explained... All I know is that if you annoy the people who surrounds you they can neg you with points.

I think this is how the government sees it, If you annoyed someone you deserved the points you loss.

So they want you to be kissass all the time.

Expect all people to be like this on each other all time in fear of losing points.

Of course people with highscores loves this system. Let's see what happens if they meet at least 10 people who dislikes them. people with slow scores will be shamed on tv. People with high scores gets awards and rewards.

People around 700 points will live a blissful life like this woman.

If you are below 500 points, you won't be allowed to have internet.

That's what will happen, yes. Earlier when you said they could be given bad scores if they annoy someone, I thought vengeance is coming. The ones being annoyed can also annoy others by being too easily annoyed. Or they won't know who scored them bad? In that case you could just have a feeling that it's your neighbour who did it so you return the favour to him. What madness it will be!

FTFY

Instilling the crabs in a bucket mentality among the population is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a government system, they have complete control. Say something inexplicably offensive to the government on your wechat? Congratulations you just got a million negatives to your score. I bet individuals with low social credit scores become the next batch of involuntary organ donors once the communist party runs out of falun gong practitioners.

I know, if they don't put in place a system to protect these persons, things could get really messed up. People don't have much patience as it is right now so imagine when they start wielding their 'authority'. You better act 'right' or else. :?
