Immortality: Consciousness Upload

Postby Netherrealmer » 08 Jul 2019, 16:56

This is a technology some scientists are working on. I am not sure if it will be available on our lifetime but I don't mind turning into a digital entity people can contact via VR.

This documentary about Mind uploading is a great watch, it inspired me to want to talk about it.

How the technology will work? Let's say you are a person who got stroke and is currently in a vegetable state. The doctors will then hook your brain to a machine so you can explore a VR world where you have an Avatar that either looks like you on your prime or has the ideal appearance you prefer.

On that digital world you can socialize with some people on similar situation or some people who died already but got uploaded on the system. Basically while you are alive, you are an "immigrant" or "tourists" on that virtual world. Once you died you are a permanent resident. Its basically like after life but not in a religious way. You will continue living as a digital character on a Virtual reality world. If you want to die for real, you can simply ask the operators to pull the plug. You will have all of your consciousness and memories exists. Once you became digital you can still earn money as a dead person via online banking but sadly you cannot buy physical goods because you are like dead and digital.

This is a form of immortality that won't make the earth suffer from overpopulation.

This is the guy who is working on making this happen:

You will basically turn into an AI.

I think a robotic body will become an option once the uploaded person dont want to live in VR anymore.

If I will become an AI I might stick with the virtual world. I am not sure if I will like a robot physical body. I wont become skynet though. I won't become murderous. That digital world can be bigger than Earth and handle Billions of digital dead people and avatars for the "tourists"

I'm always super interested about this AI subjects... and I like to read about this.
However, it's hard to think life exclusively in a virtual world. It could, indeed, be an eternal life, but would be a life? ;)

As long as I can surf the net and play videogames I am contented, though on that virtual world I might be able to do things I cant do here. Maybe I can be more Athletic in that virtual world.

They can make the landscape of this virtual world bigger than earth so you can travel this world for eternity and not get bored. Also there are so many people you can meet.

The biggest danger is if some sickmind decided to hack your "virtual heaven" and turn it into "virtual hell"

How many live people live only in virtual world, I think it could be very good. Especially if you can be more characters.

The virtual world will be composed of dead people , comatosed people and dying people who wanted to be a "tourist" It will basically a Virtual sandbox world where the residents are dead people and comatosed people who are uploaded. The technology is still on early stages, You need to connect a computer to 100 million neurons to completely upload a person and convert them into AI. Living people can also go there to visit their dead loved ones.

This is a technology I want to be finished fast. I can see rich people enjoying this first though.

The Mind upload can be used to punish criminals too. AFter they died they can be uploaded on a virtual hell.

Nope no computers are worthy to have my mind in them. They are lucky I even use the net. But yes I am so powerful I would crash and make the systems filled with virus.. and drive people insane if they called my VR. it would not be a good idea to try to upload me.
Also if you ever saw the Lawn Mower man. Someone who gets in the computers could rule the world that way.
It's just not a smart move.
Also one virus or someone deletes you and no longer immortal.

Actually if you became an AI, You will be stuck on that virtual world and you cannot bully residents and tourists because they will delete you or cut and paste you somewhere else and murder is impossible because everyone are AI. You will be in virtual Sandbox city, Island or planet. You are more like a character from Sims but with free will. You can surf the internet but you won't be able to hack it.

You won't have the power from the people who uploaded you, the programmers will become your God. The Virtual world wont be on a PC but more like the one on the picture:
Image

The circular plugs will be the dead humans converted into AI
Image

Once you got unplugged you will be "dead" but if your chip got plugged again, you will be alive again. They will basically convert you into a USB stick.

Living people can only interact with you via VR.

There is now a company that offers this service. It's Nectome. Most of their clients are terminally ill people.
