Keyboard sound can reveal your password

Postby mrki444 » 03 Sep 2019, 07:24

Everybody suggest users to cover webcams since they can be activate remotely and check our keyboard for passwords or spy our personal life.

But how about microphone? It is less dangerous? Looks it isn't. Microphone in combination with keyboard can reveal your password. How? Every keyboard button has specfic sound. If you mic is close enough and can detect such difference, typing password somebody from other side with proper tools can convert keyboard sound into letters.

What do you think about this way of attack? How any perifer device is safe for us?

This is why you log in with onscreen keyboards and your password should be remembered by your browser you won't be needing to type.

Indeed, that are lots of ways for discover our passwords. But I never thought about microphones... nowadays we are always near microphones... our smartphones, for example.
If someone hack our phone could spy on us and find our passwords...

That is something new I have learnt today. I never knew that the sounds made by the computer are different for each button. This can truly reveal your password.

Are we ever safe on the www? Hackers find so many different ways to hack into accounts. I am wondering if making a strong password using caps, numbers, special signs etc is ever enough? That is why I keep changing my passwords every 3-6 months. I had my site broken into and my facebook account broken into. Terrible experiences , it was like a nightmare for me.

To be fair, I think if they had access to our microphone, I think they could probably do a lot more than just listen to the sound of our keyboards to work out passwords.

I never knew things could be like that too. With their great technical skills and knowledge, hackers are coming with smart techniques to hack into our accounts. Our information is not safe at all when these hackers are free to do whatever they want for their personal or monetary gain. No wonder, their hacking doesn't not stop at just keyboard sound, they have other ideas also to attack on our lives.

Do you think because of this security breach, digital keyboards will become more popular?

But at least twice you must type it during registration process before you can activate that option.

True we can. But this is solution for digital keyboards. We still need some protection for physical keyboards.
