A juicebar in Italy develop a technology where the peels of oranges are dried and turned into powder and the powder is mounted on a 3d printer to convert it into biodegradable plastic.
So when you buy fresh squeezed orange juice from this juice bar, the cup you will use for drinking will be made of the orange's skin. This is one of the most environmentally friendly businesses I had seen. I have a feeling it will be expensive because Italy have expensive cost of living.
That's using up the oranges to the fullest. Whoever came up with the idea was really thinking outside the box. Imagine if we figure a way to use the skin of other fruits in some similar manner.
I read an article recently about bioplastics. Apparently not all bioplastics are biodegradable even though they are made from agricultural produce. There was so much stir about making bioplastic from banana peels sometime back. Bioplastic can be made from most agricultural by products.
