Emojis Destroying Conversations?

It seems like more people have taken up this style of responding to whole paragraphs with just one or a string of emojis. Even when a question is asked, you will sometimes see someone responding with an (often inappropriate) emoji.

For me it's no problem if I write something funny or ridiculous and the recipient responds with a 'laughing face' emoji. Something like that is understandable. But imagine writing something that requires action (confirmation, approval, etc.,) and the person only sends that emoji with one eye closed and the other opened wide with also the tongue sticking out. Does anybody even know the meaning of that emoji? I don't!

I like the idea of using emojis to enhance conversations but not as a complete replacement for words. What say you, are you with me on this? Or, are you the one sending out those creepy emojis? :lolno:

Do they credit for just Emojis? I'm not familiar with that site but I know others require a certain length or something more before crediting, no?

They credit it very minimally and people who did emoji abuse got banned. Back to the topic, one of the reasons why teens use emoji is to have a secret code parents won't understand.

I must confess that I don't know what the majority of emojis means ;) That's why I always use the same emojis...
I see lots of Instagram commentaries with only emojis and, sometimes, I believe people don't know what they means... imagine use a wrong emoji with someone... people will understand a wrong message ;)
A conversation with words isn't easy, sometimes... with emojis only is much harder... ;)

Well, I use emojis a lot but take care not to lean on them so heavily everything I write is littered with them. I'm aware that some people absolutely hate them but sometimes you just can't avoid using them in order to convey the mood because that can get lost in translation when people can't see your facial expressions.

You're so right. Even when we use words that have only one meaning, someone will still put a different meaning to it. So just imagine how much havoc 'meaningless' emojis alone could cause, lol. You could interpret what you see differently from what someone else would. Just like in the case of reading people's faces. I find myself using the same few emojis too, like the smiley or the laughing one for something funny.

Emojis are meant to summarize what one has in mind but people now abuse it .

I don't mind emojis nearly as much as bad language that belongs no place other than the toilet (certainly not in public), but I see it a lot on different forums.

I would so love to say exactly this to my uncle. It's unbelievable the emojis he can come up with for the most serious of conversations. It's like he's experimenting or something. You could send a message about an accident and the response will be 8 unrelated emojis and no words. It's beyond me how a laughing with tears face, an angry face, a heart emoji, and the rolling eyes reach in the same 'sentence' haha. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. I don't know what all that is supposed to mean. In his case, I don't stress him out too much though.

That's apart of the abuse . in most cases we struggle to comprehen what the emoji is saying .

I remember on this movie:

Teenage girls used emojis so they can device a plan to lose their virginities without letting their parents know. So they use emojis as some sort of code.

I think Emoji's are pretty great so long as I don't get a reply that I have to translate based on a series of emoji's....

I like to use them to express humour sometimes as text can be very open to misinterpretation. I don't usually use more than a couple though as I think they can detract from what you are trying to say.

Well, I use emojis either to enhance the experience of having conversations or just to kill it! There's nothing in between. Some people donot understand bye or the absence of interest in furthering the conversation! Smileys do help!

Yes, sometimes they will behave like they don't understand when you say you have to go. If the person has the habit of doing this, I won't even attempt killing the conversation with emojis. I just stop responding and eventually they get it.

In Mylot if a person starts replying with emojis it means they want the conversation to end. They dont want to make money from your responses anymore.

Why can't you express it with words?
