Social Media Therapy?

Postby Lushh » 02 Nov 2019, 01:24

What do you think about the idea of posting your household problems on social media? Not the relatable things like when your pet is ill or when your child tried to cook breakfast but burnt something. Just things out of the norm, for example sharing intimate details about your partner's cheating or any other such information which many would be hesitant to announce online.

Some have reasoned that they have to do it this way because that's their form of therapy. Do you also see this as something that could offer relief when faced with similar issues?

If you are a well liked person, Social media can be therapeutic. It helped a cancer patient Youtuber recover with all the love from fans. On the other hand it can be toxic too because internet is filled with toxic people.

So true, but I limited my friends to those I know in real life, it's boring to add those sellers, you know, your wall wouldn't pump by his/her product ads?

Yes, I've seen in some cases where persons receive such support from others, even from those who didn't know of them before. People eventually come to like them over time as a result of whatever it was they have shared online. So it has its use for sure.

Then there are like those people who cyber bullied people to the point they deleted their social media account or worst commited suicide.

There are a few friends I know who appear to live for social media. Whatever happens with them and around them has to be made public using a social media platform. I feel this is because they lack support in their personal lives. There is no one with whom they can share their thoughts and feelings so try to gather all the fake sympathy from people around.

I do not like posting my personal business on there.'
I just post my entertainment stuff, I want people to like the pages
so I can monetize them.. I am there to make money not to mess around lol.
How I do have to be nice to people I do chat with people who like my gaming stuff..
or reply to comments.. but as far as me posting or replying to drama on there,
there is not need for that.

Social media has made people learn to live in a fake world where they want to show off only the good aspects or the so called good aspects of their lives. No one knows the true inside story behind every news feed on the platform.

It's probably true because one person said social media is his therapy. Some of the people might genuinely care and sympathize but others will put this crying face emoji and move right along. I don't know if or how much that helps.

I guess, there's nothing wrong with people posting their whereabouts on social media. I think it's their way of letting their frustrations out. Just as long as they don't harm anyone, it's fine by me. But as for me, I don't like posting my personal issues as I am a very private person.

I suppose people do this. But I don't have very many in my network that do it. I agree with @fergus1234. If you trust the people in your network I suppose it's a good a place to talk. I wouldn't do it though.

Yes because ... sometimes you need a disconnected party to get a point of view. Also, people have different experiences and can offer a perspective you may have never thought of.

The example given was
for example sharing intimate details about your partner's cheating

I think this would be wrong, since it involves another person. The right approach would be to just walk away and start over.

I agree. Social media does not give you the right to violate someone else's privacy.

I see many folks doing so in Daily or weekly YouTube Vlogs(videos + Blogs).
Some even talk about infidelity, past breakups, and sometimes even severely criticizing another Youtuber severely.
Many such vlogs are a big hit, with Thousands of views. Yet some of these folks can mislead other too, or garner sympathy.

Some have even uploaded videos of others when these ones didn't know they were being recorded. It's more like wanting to shame the people rather than to get sympathy sometimes. I think so. Some of them feel hurt by something someone did and they decide to respond in this manner.

Unfortunately, such things at times set a chain reaction. What follows is bitterness and disharmony in the society at large.

Very true! Walking away and starting over as Oldbuddy earlier suggested will most definitely bring back the harmony. All else is asking for more trouble. Let it go!
