Beware of sharing your personal stories on Reddit, forums and social media.

Postby Netherrealmer » 18 Jan 2020, 15:36

There is an animated Youtube channel called "actually happened" who is making money plagiarizing stories shared by people on Reddit and multiple forums without their permission and they are making money without royalties for the owner of the stories.

This plagiarism channel is not getting punished and demonetized. They steal stories from Reddit,Quora,Yahoo answers, Various forums and heck even a Mylot discussion that I recognized. This Youtube channel kept on trending and getting recommended. So you will get copyright strike with songs and movies but you can plagiarize internet stories and turn them into cartoons.

Yeah but people do this to with all the No Sleep dark web stories.
I remember reading those in the past on Reddit some claimed to be true
others fake. WEll I saw those same stories told in audio on youtube and they had ads on them.
I mean yeah people do this all the time. But unless the story is copywritten
i am not sure they can get it taken down?Of course the original writer
should get paid.

We should never share a private parts of life. You can never know who will recognize you. Many books, meme's start from real stories which people share.

Lord, what's the world coming to?! I'm always careful about what of myself I put out there for that reason. I mean, as it stands, we already leave ourselves open simply by being on various social media platforms and online earning sites. So for someone to capitalise on that is just crazy.

People often do this with pics and memes also. Or someone makes a meme someone puts it on their monetized page and they earn from it. So it's just how its always been online.
I know when I started doing youtube, some of my videos were on some random site lol

Many confessions site covince people to share their problems anonymously. This way they get free content and monetized it with ads.

Well they only allow to share it on that site and not on a cartoon Youtube channel that makes unauthorized plagiarism to make money.

But people like this guy need to be careful because they might land themselves a lawsuit in one of these days. Some people won't take it lying down!

They at least credit the reddit user and the reddit page where it came from. The cartoons in question don't.

Yes at least they do credit the no sleep section and the original
poster. These other guys are just ripping stuff off.
You make a good point. So writers get paid to post in no sleep at all?
or it's just for free they post?

I've seen people 'parrot' basic comments online so it's not alarming they'd steal a whole story given the opportunity. These guys are probably doing it on the basis that once it's shared publicly, it's no longer a private story. In any case, making a 'business' out of it is beyond presumptuous now. And not even consulting or sharing the profits with the people who they took the ideas from? You remember the guy who was saying "hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband"? The two brothers didn't just take off with his story. They checked in and worked with him on it.

There's a petition out there to get this Actually Happened channel shut down. Will you be signing?

First of all, I think if you post something on the internet you should know that what you post is for everyone. Any posting, text, picture or video can reach anyone by various means. In other words, it is not for someone to steal an idea and get benefits from it. Here measures should be taken. There are certain materials that are especially posted for free use by anyone. For example pictures on sites like pixabay.com. About the rest, I don't know what to say.

I think they just got some Reddit credit. It can't be converted into cash or some gift cards.

Oh wow really? I might have to write writing some stories on there.
I did not know you could actually earn money from posting.
Now that is pretty awesome. Another new thing I might try doing this year.

This isn't new at all, people are always out to use others to their advantage, especially where money is involve but I see those making huge sums without royalties to the real owners as greedy people. I wish their channels could be banned.
