What is your opinion of Nuclear Power?

Postby Netherrealmer » 24 Jan 2020, 09:45

This energy source is a double edge sword. It can be a clean source of energy if the facility have great maintenance and located to a place free from Weather problems like storms or geological problems like earthquakes and volcanic eruption. In a safe environment with strict maintenance, Nuclear Power can provide cheap electricity that is efficient. But a single earthquake can make an environmental damage like Fukushima or an accident can be like what happened to Chernobyl.

As long as there is no earthquakes and leaks Nuclear Power is environmentally friendly compare to oil and coal.

I am all for it and we had a plant close to us for many years until it got too old and expensive to maintain.

I'm kind of iffy. It is much more environmentally friendly until we use it, and that's where I'm hung up on. The environment itself is at a very "iffy" spot and I'm not sure if we should be taking risks with nuclear power.

Nuclear power is fine as long as it's not being used to make nuclear weapons. Doesn't Japan use nuclear power? :?

Nuclear power is currently is cleanest source of energy for people. Problem is, errors on nuclear power plan can affect much bigger area and number of people than regular dirty thermal power plant.

Every thing have pros and cons, Nuclear power is cheap but risky. Solar and wind energy is better than it.

That's why the Fukushima disaster happened. They are the last country that should have Nuclear power with all the volcanic activities they have. Countries and States in the Pacific ring of fire should not have Nuclear Power

That wont be a problem if he solar panel is off grid because it has batteries that can last for days in case of night and rainy season.

Solar panels are bad in long term process. Material is hard to recycle. It is only good for satelites. In your example I would give advantage to glass plants or wind.

I believe that when handled well it brings a lot more good than evil. There's still other good sources of energy but nuclear energy is viable on how much energy it produces. I say it's a keeper

True. Then again not every country has it, and if it does there are a lot better options than fossil fuel, I'm sure.

Many nuclear power plants are in hands of private corporations and they don't think to much about security.

Solar energy stored in batteries so it not problem that sun go down for 12 hours,

Problem is in transport to long distance users. Batteries are not good for transport and they don't have enough capacity.

Nuclear energy is a double-edged sword that may be very beneficial or destructive in many cases.
In general, the most important thing is how to use it.
