The first mouse ever created

Postby elena28 » 12 Mar 2020, 14:35

Douglas Engelbart is the inspired gentleman who came up with the computer mouse, an extremely bizarre concept at the time of its inception, but which is now a huge part of the computer industry. This invention came out of a mid-life crisis where he decided he wanted to make the world a better place, and that computers were the way of the future – so he put his efforts into bettering the computer.

Now we have laptops with no mice and mice with no chords. I still prefer mouse over touchscreen.

Great invention. Can't imagine this started from such a primitive design, till now there are 4D mouse, with more enhanced controls. I really like the way technology evolves.

If my memory serves me right, it was first offered to Macintosh and they refused.

Oh, how technology progresses. Now we barely even use mice, all we have to do now is scroll, swipe and touch using our fingers.

It looks really basic with just one single button and I don't know about the wheel , I'm really thankful to the modern technology because we don't need to use those old versions anymore!

My early computers came long before the mouse. It took me quite awhile to get used to using them.

IBM was a major manufacturer for early versions of the computer mouse. I recall when this memo came out. It was not intended as a joke, but the geek who wrote it made it pretty funny without meaning to.

Take a gander at this repair memo for the computer mouse back then:

The first mouse I have ever used was the ones with a rotating ball inside. As fas as I can remember when it was computer laboratory time during grade school, my classmates would steal those ball inside a mouse. That ball can't even bounce. Why would they get it?

 I can relate to this. I remember when we were able to have a lesson using computers and we would all pick a computer to use and within a few seconds you will see random people turning their mouses over to realize the ball as missing

How technology has moved on for the better. Nowadays I use a rechargeable wireless mouse where no one can steal the ball from

I think my classmates did that in order to skip the activity, because they knew our laboratory does not have extra mouse.

It was really funny at first until we were assigned to a specific computer for a whole year. Before we can even start using a computer, we have to log in our names in a book and my teacher will will check all the parts of the computer before an activity, only then we will get a go signal to use it.

I also wasted money using a retractable cable mouse. I don't know, but it won't last long when I bought one of those.

Me too. I do prefer a mouse over a touch screen. I guess I am just holding on to what I was born to.

I prefer a mouse over a touchscreen simply because the body posture remains intact and we don't have to hunch.I have memories of those white-colored mouse with a ball beneath. It was real fun when I first used that.
