Help me with choosing a Laptop Brand

Postby brnrd » 17 Apr 2020, 12:35

I'm planning to buy a laptop during my summer/short semester. I'm having difficulties in choosing. What is your preferred laptop brand and why? I would love to read your explanation.

I have two laptops. Lenovo Yoga 260 which is 3 years old. It small hybrid tablet with dockable keyboard. Intel i5 processor with SSD drive is great combination. Other laptop iz personal Acer with A8 processor and classic HDD disk, 5 years old. It is slower than Yoga but still good for use. Bigger,15inch and it has CD ROM. I future I will remove CD and add SSD drive.
Concusion Lenovo is much easier for carrying because of smaller mass but it have smaller screen 11inch. If you do multitask maybe will be small for you.
Acer have bigger screen which is better for multitask but it is heavier so for carrying and back it is not so good.

My husband and I have been using Apple products for years now and I'd highly recommend you go with one of their various products. If you have the budget for it, please don't dismiss it, look up the reviews, have a word with someone at your Apple store and compare and contrast. The one warning I have, though - once you use it, you won't ever want to go back - that's if you've never experienced one.

I have a google chromebook but sometimes I get a message that says that I can't run a program on the system. I am getting a lenova later this year because it is a good brand I bought for my daughter about a year ago :)

I have used various brands and I can say all were good. Try HP, Lenovo or Dell in low price band or go for an Apple product for higher price.

Apple is still the best option if you can afford it according to my friends and colleagues. Personally, I have only tried two laptops - Toshiba and Acer. With Toshiba, I had problems with the battery and some keys not working but it died at a very old age. It lasted more than a decade. It was actually a hand-me-down but it worked great. Now, my Acer laptop is five years old and I only had a problem with its battery because it got really drained. It wasn't shut down properly and it was left uncharged for two days so now its battery isn't functioning anymore. I have to use it while plugged in. Aside from that, I don't have any problem with it so Acer is fine if you have limited budget.

Lenovo laptops have reasonable prices and decent quality, You are paying for what you will get. If you want to save money because you are a student, stay away from overpriced apple products.

Thank you for suggesting beautiful people <3 . I really appreciate sharing all your experiences. The bad thing is, I do not have enough budget for an Apple product.

So far Lenovo leads this race  .

You can't find many expensive Dell or Lenove models but those are gaming specs. I would not recomend such specs for student since students don't need it. Also gaming laptops have waranty only a year. Non gaming specs have two years waranty.

I have AutoCad 2014 version on both laptops. On both laptopts works fine without any lag only start is better on Lenove since it has SSD drive. Also version 2010 worked fine.

I won't recommend any brand but ask the seller how many hours it's battery can last so it will be useful during blackouts and road trips.

Here is battery status on my Lenovo Yoga laptop. I think it is good. It is on 75% of performance. If I make performance lower, battery will last even longer.

I have been using Lenovo- both at work and at home. So far it has been quite satisfactory.
Another good option that many folks prefer is Toshiba.
You can also look for good options in Dell.

No it doesn't have any lag at all at 75% performance. AutoCad lag sometimes on lower than 50% performance but browsing, word not even on that performance.

I, personally, love Apple for college. I also have an iPhone so I can do some work on my phone and switch to my computer when I get home or to the library. I'm sure android system is probably similar but I'm not 100%. I just got a gaming PC and trying to figure out the mechanics of a non-apple OS again

HP is another good and reliable brand. I've used Compaq, Dell and Toshiba - wasn't really a fan of either of them. They worked and did what I needed them to do but didn't last long at all. They were ready to be scrapped after about 4-5 years of use. My HP desktop lasted around 12 years, laptop I've had since '08 and still works.

Just make sure that whatever you buy, you're looking at the specs to make sure it's a computer that will do what it needs to do for you. A lot of people just buy and don't pay attention and then complain when the computer doesn't do something specific.
