Missing some things on Google search

Postby Sojourn » 03 May 2020, 16:33

We all do it.It is the best.It does its job the best. And many things have changed down the years in google search when they added and removed features. They changed their logo design also. But there are few handful of things I miss in google search like peeking into the webpage without actually opening it,seeing the website-link as it is and not in a fancy format as it is shown now,the google discussions tab.

Do you use your default search other than google? What features are you liking now and also misssing.

Lately, I switched to duckduckgo.
I think not showing a preview of a webpage could be due to business reasons. If you see the content of the webpage before going there, probably there will be zero hits on the ads.

I don't mind the changes I have been seeing lately just as long as Google serves its purpose. It's my favorite search engine ever.

I tried that search engine. But I went right back to Google.

That reminds me of an event a while back. Google was accused of trying to "hog the market" and keep all the customers to themselves. Google's response was: "Don't get made at us because customers 'prefer' to use our product. We're not twisting their arm to get them to use our search engine."

I think that's true. Over the years Google has made lots of changes but people still 'prefer' to use their search engine. Except in China. China wants its citizens to use a search engine developed by China. But that's not a customer choice. That's just a requirement forced onto the citizens.

Duckduckgo is a privacy focused search engine. It says it collects no personal info from us.But how does they generate revenue then? Interestingly, this search is also used in the dark web.

Search engines can from ranking sites. Example, you are webmaster and you want your site to be little higher on ranking results for specific country or keywords. You pay them and site goes up.

I see.I didn't knew that this happens.I believe duckduckgo most likely adopts this business model.

Yes. That is the appeal and that's why many people are switching to DuckDucKGo. It's for privacy reasons.

So they highlights the searches of their sponsors I guess.Whatever it is,unless a person is truely obssessed about privacy
he/she will not use duckduckgo for a non-trivial search.
