YouTube Comments Section Moved

Postby Lushh » 20 May 2020, 10:32

Did you all notice that the comments area on YouTube is no longer where it used to be? It took me days to find it even though it was right there at the top. All I kept seeing was that 'comments have moved' but still found it difficult to locate.

Now instead of scrolling down past a number of other videos to get there, it's somewhat hidden in a preview just under the current video itself. You no longer see long strings of comments unless you take the added step of clicking that word comments (circled in blue/screenshot). Your video will still continue to play while scrolling through comments.

"It took you days to find it"

I'm pretty certain that it tells you that the comments section has been moved in its old area.

They want to hide it and reveal it via clicking because of click rate. You know those "show more" buttons. They really like to abuse it for click rate because click rate attracts advertisers. Just like how Facebook made Poking super hidden and requires a lot of clicking to show up.

I remember you said that before about some other sites. So YouTube decided to join them, lol. Yes, it's somewhat like the 'show more' thing because you'll just see parts of the Top Comment and then after clicking, it will reveal the rest and the other comments. At least that's how it comes up on the phone. I haven't tried it on the computer yet.

I bet soon they will hide likes and dislikes and you have to click something for a reveal

That would be pushing it now, lol. When you're going to have to 'work' to see how many dislikes a video has, who will bother?

At least they didn't hide it on desktop version. I rare use Youtube on smartphone since app can't run in background while screen is off.

This was my experience on mobile before finally finding the comments. First, I saw Comments have moved and next to that GO TO COMMENTS as shown in screenshot here.

So I chose the go to comments option. Then a blue box pops up Tap to see all comments, as seen below. Surely, that was the area I kept tapping.

This was how it looked after I tapped - naked, empty, dead!

Until...one fine day, I decided to tap instead the word comment and that's when I saw the light, lol. All comments became visible. So why did they have to do me like that!? @mrki444, the images fell out of the natural order after I added that last one but I know you'll figure it out. Just follow the writing and then match the relevant images. The point is, they (YT) had me in circles just to read the comments.

Try to make a super long comment and you will see the new Youtube design abuse the "show more " button. Successful websites rather make their sites harder to you for the sake of clickrate.

I have a friend who sends me links to her YT videos and I leave comments pretty regularly. I never noticed the difference. But I am on a laptop

It's probably more problematic when using phone. I still haven't gone on YouTube with computer for a while to see if I notice the changes. One thing I remember though is that we (a group of us) used to be able to comment in live chat on YouTube every week. Now it says the chat has been turned off for anything that is child friendly. I don't quite understand it but they (YT) are always doing some things that make other functions disappear.

Later I'm going to try on the desktop and see if I have the same experience as with the phone. Using your laptop, did you have to click anything for the comments to show up under the videos? Usually they would automatically show up for me but now it's definitely search and click.

I do remember seeing the live chats. Now that you mention it I don't see them. But I just thought it was that I had not picked a particular video. :?

Does that mean they'll let you click more than once to see all of the comment? I remember having done that on FaceBook several times. Even for my own posts, sometimes I have to click 3 or more times to read again what I wrote.

I am always on YT but I didn't see the difference. I am using an iPad to watch YT tutorials about makeup and freelancing. Or maybe I am not that observant.

Yup they are abusing that "click more" or " Show more" button to increase their click rate. Reddit also abuses that thing recently. Mylot too. I am so happy that long comments are fully revealed in forumcoin.

It seems they are already abusing it for short comments. I saw a few where I had to click 'read more' and after I clicked you wouldn't believe it. Check out this one that had only two words - yes TWO words classified as the 'more' to read. Look right after the guy said "considering its" and then follow along in the next image for the continuation. :?
