Zoom vs MS Teams Vs Google Meet

Postby johnl0626 » 29 May 2020, 12:59

With the quarantine still in effect in most parts of the world, online conferencing, work-at-home, online learning, and the likes are becoming the new norm. The question is, which application works best for these purposes. I'm not expecting a one-app-fit-all type of answer, but I want to hear from your experiences on these apps.
If you have other apps in mind, feel free to share a little about it.

I voted for Zoom but that's because it's the main one that I've used. I tried Facebook every now and then too.

I voted for MS Teams since I use it every day for many hours. One advantage of MS Teams in head of Zoom is sharing files, assignments, statistic. Zoom is only for calls and nothing else.

Thanks, @cmoneyspinner. I don't think that Facebook will be applicable for work-related tasks though, there could be a lot of distractions.

We use MS Teams officially. I have used Skype before but MS Teams is much better and faster, and safer.
Zoom is in wide prevalence but I do not recommend it because of multiple security risks.

I have heard about the security risk with Zoom. I think I should give MS Teams a try now. I have seen it work on my Wife's laptop, but I have used it personally.

You can share files in Zoom. You also have a whiteboard and can share screens, windows and areas of the screen.

Dunno about assignments and statistics - whatd does this mean?

I did not know you can do that in Zoom. I'm not sure yet with the assignments and stats in teams though, I need to check that one out too.

Thanks.

Does those files stay available for all after videocalls is out?

You can post assigment where people upload their work and you see how many did, how much time they need, check deadlines, where they active on Teams.

Um ... I know some people who use it for work-related tasks. In fact the very first work-related video I watch was on Facebook. I just recently started with ZOOM.

I think Facebook could be used for a quick video-conferencing since most people are in it already. Thanks.

That's the main reason I posted this thread. To get to know the other possible options.

So far, from the three options, I have only used Google meet for video conferencing, and sharing my screen. But for online classes, I have used Google Classroom, which can be used along with Google meet actually. But I think I'd check the features of Zoom as described here.

Ah, I see - so Teams is more than video conferencing? I guess that makes sense with the name. It sounds like it's a combination of Slack and Zoom?

@johnl0626 - the fact of the matter is that each one of these video services is quite good. The only one that I heard the most complaints though was ZOOM. But the ZOOM folks seems to have fixed the problems.

Ever since I heard about the Zoom security scare, I'm a little wary of going there. A friend also told me Zoom limits the time you can speak. I've only ever used Skype and still like it. Please let us know how you get on with MS Teams once you've tried it.

So far, I have observed my wife attends a number of webinars using MS Teams and Google meet. But I haven't used it them yet. So far, I have used Google Meet to talk with a friend about the blogsite I am creating for him. AT least Meet allows me to share my screen just like in skype. I will update this thread when I get to try zoom and teams
