Hybrid wooden skyscraper - great danger or future?

Postby mrki444 » 01 Jul 2020, 18:33

A business hybrid wooden skyscraper will be built in Australia, which will have as many as 40 floors. It will be built as a hybrid of wood and steel. The outer part of the skyscraper will be made of glass and steel, while the inner part will be made of wood.
New skyscrapers of this type are also announced and therefore it seems that they are the future.
But if we look at the past wooden houses are banned due to the high possibility of fire, and the skyscraper will have an internal wooden structure.

Will this skyscraper be able to comply with all safety measures? Do you consider it a threat to the tenants (the planned number is around 4000 tenants) or the future?

Well the temples in Japan are centuries or even thousands of years old and they are made of wood and no nails are used to build them. They just cut the wood like connectible puzzle pieces.

It would be frightening for me to live in that skyscraper as I am also wondering about it structure security as wood may not be the best option.

OK it has same amount of people but I don't think it is in same category as skyscrapers. They are not so high and for me elevators, aircondition systems and other tech combined with wooden beams is just dangerous. To many wires.

I hope that these Hybrids are created with full construction norms and designs confirming to the local rules, and safety aspects.

I think they are since have permit to build it and have plans for others but it is hard imagine how they got those permit. How they manage put all wires, pipes between wood walls. Server rooms are big sources of heat.

What if termit attack wood?

The wood would be of special type and no ordinary one. Well, it is tough to say but at such level, often influence and power also play their part.

I see it as a threat to lives and properties. An outbreak of fire would lead to many losses. Unless they have some chemicals to apply to the wood to reduce the combustion level, otherwise it's not going to be something I will give a thumbs up.
