In start all cars had manual gear transmission but lately many people decide buy automatic transmissions. In some time those cars were know for as cars for old people. Automatic transmissions are more expensive and harder to fix or service but still more yonger people decide for it since it is easier to drive and save some fuel. Manufacturers offer more and more new cars with automatic transmissions and prediction is it will be more present.

What transmission you have? Do you look at transmission or other aspects are more important for you?

In US, almost all cars now have Auto Transmissions. In India too, most manufacturers have at least one Auto Transmission cars. Yet I still see Manual ones being the preferred mode, though one cannot be sure what would be the norm down 5-6 years.

In the UK most cars have manual transmission but I love automatic cars and always buy them. People here usually find when they switch to automatic they don't want to go back to manual. I can't see it changing here in the near future though.

Why did you go on automatic? What is main advantage for you in automatic transmission? Is is more expensive for service?

I much prefer an automatic car and that's what I drive. Like @mrki444 says, I've also heard they're very popular in the US. Here in Botswana, I'm seeing more and more of them. The government has even introduced a system that allows people to choose between taking a test for a manual or automatic license. I see more and more people taking the latter option. Also, many modern cars now offer a dual system. So, I think eventually, we'll see more automatics than manuals.

I just find them so easy to drive. I don't find the repairs any more expensive than a manual car as a general thing and modern autos don't seem to drink much more fuel. I only buy small cars though.

Not really. I never had a gearbox fail but I do buy cars with a low mileage. I would say my partner pays out more on his manual car for repairs but he drives more than I do.

For many, too much gear switching in heavily trafficked roads is cumbersome for many. So they could be going for the Auto transmission mode. And may be some other factors as well.

I agree with this. It can be problem with driving, you can broke clutch, maintainance is more often, leg can hurt especially in city traffic.
