Why my smartphone could not start mining XMR?

Postby mrki444 » 24 Aug 2020, 20:26

I have Redmi 7A and I wanted test could it mine some Monero currency. I open site minero.cc and click on start mining but after few minutes nothing happend. Speed was all time 0.00 hash/s and total was 0 to. When I work from laptop it starts.

My Redmi 7A has Octa-core (4x1.95 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.45 GHz Cortex A53) and 2GB or RAM. I tried in Opera Lite browser and Mi Browser.

Do you have some adblocker or antivirus installed. This could be a security gone crazy strict.

Ads are disabled in Opera Lite but in Mi Browser I don't have any plugins. I will try with some other browser. Also, on laptop in Opera ads are disabled but still working. Maybe just processor is to weak.

We need to check if cryptocurrencies could be mined on phones. They need special processors. Phones may not satisfy condition. People tried mining Bitcoins on even personal computers and failed. Some even reported overload on processors. If mining on crypto is so easy that anyone with just a phone can mine, then why Genesis Mining and similar organizations are charging too much from customers?

It is good that laptop is able to mine though I doubt it will stay so in long term.

You mentioned that phone has (1.95 + 1.45)x4 GHz processor and just 2GB RAM. Most phones today come with 3GB OR 4GB RAM. We need to check if 2GB is sufficient. Further Redmi is a Chinese company. So, can't comment on quality. Not many really test the processor and simply go with the data shared by the manufacturer.

I tried mine Monero, not bitcoins. Monero is currency which mostly depends on processor power. I didn't know some ask special processors. I read people start mining farms with old phones so I had idea my smartphone could do it to.
