Walking cars - rescue and space tech

Postby mrki444 » 30 Nov 2020, 20:52

We all often have dreams about flying cars like in Star Wars and other futuristic shows. It would be accepted by everybody who can afford it and one day become standard.

But how about for less wanted service but much important like rescue service?
Resuce service often have problems by reaching people stuch in mountains in snow or after natural disasters when roads are not clear for regular traffic. Example, flood or stronger earthquake in town.
Hyundai show his possible solution in walking cars.

There cars have legs and can make big steps depends on size vehicle. It can go over dirt or mess after flood. Don't need regular road and it should easy stuck in mud. Looks like even better from caterpillars.

Why I think it can be space tech to?
On Moon or Mars we don't have roads and many stuff can damage tires. Also walking on asteroid would be possbile with this tech.

What do you think about this tech?

I can see cars like this being used on Mars because it has areas with complicated terrain.

Moon to. It has a lot of crater on surface and it is not flat as we think. Also a lot of dust can be problem. We can see dust when astronauts walk on surface.

I believe it would be a good option for places where regular cars have difficulty to go. This walking cars seem to have more mobility than those that stand in wheels.

It's a great idea but probably would never be needed in the UK as we don't get much heavy snow. Having said that the met office has forecast light snow for my area this week. It doesn't usually amount to anything.

Do you have some mountain area? It don't have to be snow problem. It can flood area and make jam on roads. This vehicle don't need any road.

I googled it and we apparently already have light snow on some of our mountains. We get serious flooding in some areas where homes are destroyed and life is lost so maybe it would be useful for those areas.

I think it would since it can step over and wider feet on legs would prevent sinking into water or mud.

I think it's pretty cool and there is no telling how many lives these would save and I think it's going to make life much more easier, let's just hope they are able to create this in time.

I wonder if the legs are replaceable just like how wheels are replaceable.

Yes they are for sure. In case of some malfunction must be fixed. In ever toy we had legs are separated so they can be added or removed. Just like wheels in real cars. I bet there will be version where you can add what you need: tires, caterpillar or legs.
