Indie developers

Postby mrki444 » 14 Dec 2020, 21:28

This is name which often is related to programmers and developers from India. But actually this is not true.

Indie developers are devepolers who make entire project alone. Usually you have programer, frontend guy and content and SEO persons. This is small team. Indie developer does everything alone. They often do smaller projects like games or websites. This is how we got Indie games- games done fully from one person and not team.

Would you like to become Indie developer? If you already done something alone you become one!

The most inspiring Indie developer story I know is skullgirls. The game was funded by fans 100 percent and it is one of the most successful fan funded Indie games out there because it had a tournament scene on evo. Then there are failures like Might number 9 which is really hated by the funders.

Indie developers mostly done small games and earn from ads. Rare who get funds for developing games. Maybe they get some donations.

Skullgirls is not a free app, Its a full fledged fighting game that was sold at 30 dollars at launched but the price already dropped. it sold well enough to be considered an E-sport.

I think the game took years because its multiframe 2d game. They made their own engine.

-----------

The number one game right now is an indie game created by 3 people. Among us!!

I find this list of most used tools by Indie developers.

    Unreal Engine.
    Unity.
    Godot Engine.
    Gamemaker Studio.
    Monogame.
Some of these are free and have premium versions but you can choose what is best for you.

Only indie games that I have seen in real life are small browser based arcade games. As I am a programmer myself, I have an ambition to develop a non-trivial game soon and launch in some app store. But it requires dedication and proper planning which I am lacking currently.

Wow, kudos to them! One thing I know is that there is a lot of tech-based activity coming out of India. And if you browse the techies on Fiverr, a lot of them are Indian. I have zero ability to do anything technical, so I can't go down that route even if I wanted to

Yes those are most often indie developers projects. More complex game require more skills and even more important more time. Probably most of them is not devoted to one project for few years.
