What kind of features do you look for when buying a new device?

Postby Pousinha » 18 Dec 2020, 23:55

When comes to buy a new device, we need to search what better suits our needs.

About pcs, notebooks and netbooks:
If our job is video editing and we use to edit considerable sized videos, we need to look for a dedicated GPU. If we are university students, we need a pc or notebook that's suitable for writing use and attending lessons and conferences. So we need a fast device.

About mobiles:
If we need a mobile only for callings and contact friends and relatives, a cheap no brand one 1 GIGA memory may be enough to help. If we need internet banking, online investments and paid tasks, it's good to think about a galaxy line A or J or an advanced LG with last android release.

These are only examples. What do you search for?

For a Student, my primary feature is that it looks like a cheap throw away with an obscure brand that won't have thieves drooling over it just waiting for you to turn your back for a moment.

Well, for Mobile phones, I would see performance over looks plus at least 2 GB RAM now. For laptops, I would go for a 16GB RAM in the future though such laptops are very costly as of now.

A 16 giga memory would be my first choise for my new notebook (or better, netbook). I was terribly in need of a new one because my old toshiba are really very old and don't work properly any more (8 and 7 years old respectively): too slow, keyboard issues, incompatibilities. But cause high dollar currency, technology in latin America has shameful prices. Do you imagine an intel celeron cpu notebook, only 4 giga memory costing 3000 reais? That is more or less 3 salaries of a workman (in dollars, it would be 600 dollars). Really shameful, knowing how weak intel celeron is, worse than intel pentium. Companies are pricing the design. Imagine the price of a 16 giga memory notebook: above 10 thousand reais. Impossible. I was forced to a 4 giga Vaio, but in any way, it's surprisingly fast (obviously because it has a 250 SSD and no heavy HD), cpu i3. It was the cheapest compromise while puchasing. It's very good for studying purpose and online working. Not the best for editing video, but my second toshiba can still do edition works.

So things are not good with respect to the Laptop prices in Brazil as well !! I have my 7 year old laptop with 4 GB RAM that is fine for most Internet browsing works.
Yet if I want a new one, I would like a 16 GB one but it would be very costly.

All technology prices in Brazil and above all Argentina are shameful high. A notebook (medium level, if I remember well) in Córdoba may cost 120 thousand pesos, what in Brazil would be 7500 reais. For lot of people this is what they earn in 1 year. My Vaio cost (after black friday discount) near to 2900 reais and my idea is to buy additional memory 8 GIGA, but I must wait the 12 months guarantee to expire, because if I open the netbook, I lose guarantee.

For a mobile phone, I will go for a 2gb Ram above and 32gb Rom.
For a laptop a 4gb Ram and a 500 gb Rom .

I like removable batteries too, but unfortunately here where I live it became impossible to find if we want an high quality brand telephone :( . I suppose the non-removable battery was a studied trick by companies to increase their earnings, as people may be eager to buy a new device than simply substitute a battery :? .
My second no-brand phone (or batter, local anonymous brand) has a removable battery, but its quality is awful. It's not good nor for callings. Luckily, 2 cryptocurrencies earning apps run correctly but it can't run a third, as lacks space even for updatings.

A simple android would do for me too. In case it gets stolen the impact may not be that severe as an Iphone.

Price to performance is the most important thing to me. I need something affordable that is as powerful as possible.

@Pousinha Buy Korean brands not Chinese Brands, If you want phones with removable battery with high quality. Also dont be scammed by Iphone. The name is not worth it, its not durable.

I'm staying far away from iPhone and from Apple at all. But is not Samsung korean? My second phone is in any way brazilian (manufactured in Curitiba by the industry that made fusion with Vaio).

I always look for the specs. If the specs have a good quality I'll go for it but I also consider the price even if I like the specs if I can't afford it then I'll look for the second-best.

I always look for the wifi or Cellular access to the internet ,the battery that powers the device for several hours,a physical or on-screen keyboard for entering information, the size and weight and the touch-screen interface in almost all cases.
