Do you prefere libre office or openoffice?

Postby Pousinha » 21 Dec 2020, 21:37

I didn't mention office on purpose, talking about open source productivity programs. As microsoft office use to be shameful expensive and not always fits with students (even working students) finances. Until receiving the only online office version by universiy, I did several academic jobs using openoffice (in spite of formatting and especially table of content became a matyrdom to resolve  ), to not spend a cent. I prefere openoffice to libre office, finding it lighter and more user-friendly. What about your preferences?

I have never tried OpenOffice but I tried Libre office and it is possible to do some writing works but it is not the same as the paid Word version.

Openoffice I used to try on Linux. But now that we are going to be getting libreoffice by default. I don't see any strong reasons to use the open office anymore.

In between those, libre is better for me. It is similar to MS Office, there is less changes in documents when you use it in both versions.

Yes, it's true it's not the same, as microsoft office is implemeted for enterprise usage owning too many tools. In any way, for a student and a middle way skilled online worker, libre office and openoffice get enough to complete academic works, even not being that easy and stuggling to make a table of contents. I used openoffice to complete my first e-book, as it was pretty possible to add images too.

I have heard that officially WIndows office is coming to Linux. They already have it on Mac. So I think that would pretty much end the LIbreoffice domination unless some folks who hate MS may not go for office on linux.

Maybe if office for linux would be offered for free, but the issues for students are prices. For a student, microsoft office is high priced, considering that oldest versions lose compatibility with devices and time by time come the need to buy the newest office.

I literally search for LibreOffice because libre means free. I don't use both of them because until now I use Microsoft Office.

Open Office is free too, as an open source program. As my Toshibas are too old, they suffer if I install heavy programs, but until last year I had both Libre Office and Open Office.

Libre Office was a spinoff from Open Office to include significant upgrades a couple of engineers thought it needed, so I switched when they did this a few years ago and never looked back. I honestly don't know if it's better or not, but I have had no problems either.
