e-books vs traditional books: pros and cons

Postby Pousinha » 04 Jan 2021, 17:11

I still rember those heavy backpacks, full of books, even primary school children were forced to carry on their backs day by day. And scoliosis was the big risk. I faced this issue too during my times, together with my schoolmates, and after, university collegues and friends too. And Education Ministry wasn't there to help  .It wasn't computer age, nor mobile age. We only count on paper, pen and land line.
Computer age was a revolution and e-books a right wonderful consequence:

1)e-books don't weight
2)e-books don't cost shipping fees when you move to another city, country, continent
3)e-books don't cost so much money as paper is used to cost and better new: online exist free legit e-books to download, as project gutenberg shows
4)e-books accross border and languages: if we live for ex. in Spain, we easily can buy an english e-book using the british amazon with zero issues
5)last, but not least: less paper means more alive trees

These the pros. The only cons I see is when a device breaks and the hapless user forgot to save his/her e-books in a pendrive, cloud storage or/and kindle tool  .
About traditional books is all the other way round  .

I LOVE eBooks and since my husband got me my first eReader eight years ago, I've not looked back. It's actually coming up for renewal because the battery doesn't last as long anymore. I like the convenience of being able to shop for and buy my books online any time I feel like it. I buy mine via Amazon and love that eBooks are also cheaper than paperbacks. The fact that eBooks live in my eReader and don't take up space in my apartment is a huge bonus. And oh yes, eBooks don't require paper, so they are eco-friendly <3

I found 100% free alternative to e-reader: I use both notebook and mobile to read, included academic PDF free books. The kindle I have is that one offered for free by amazon and can install in whatever device and my e-books appear.
About legit for free e-books, I stored ones google play store provided me as reward or offered in any way for free (my best favourite Pride and prejudice, both english and spanish languages is gifted).

But still people have problems with reading book on tablets or e-readers. Eyes are sensitive, they can read less pages, more tired after reading than an ordinary book.

I have brand Nemesis dark glassed that help and I can read up to 200 pages in a single day when I'm obliged to finish very fast postgraduate lessons. In spite of my sight matters (a kind of short-sightedness left eye and astigmatism both), I need to go on this way. If I were forced to buy academic paperback, it would be really hard for me to study, as too much expensive. In any way, my new vaio netbook counts on an helpful protective eye technology.

I also love purchasing most of my books from Kindle although it has been a while since did my last purchase. I stopped buying a hard copy and I have never looked back but I still have some lying around cause my mum is a teacher.

I have purchased a lot of paperback books which I should not be purchasing much. And instead I should be buying more ebooks because it saves space and cant be stolen as we can keep them on clooud.

Some readers still prefer the physical book because of its smell. Well for me, I buy a book if it is not available online.

I prefer books based on content. And lightness, as e-books don't weight  . About the smell: I happily disregard smell...unless they don't stink
