Swatting - new type of online 'joke'

Postby mrki444 » 04 Jan 2021, 17:28

Looks people really don't have brains. One thing is make joke and have fun with it. Second thing is make joke with rescue service and get people injured. And that what swatting is.

Swatting is making a hoax call to the emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.

After doing this I would send all those trups to guy how made that hoax call so he can fell how is having fw guns pointed on you. Maybe add some laser pointed in your forehead.

I mean joking with emergency service - sentence should be - if you need help and you call rescue service they should decline and not come help you.

Because of swatting some people get injured and killed.

What type of sentence would you give for this 'joke'?

That sounds so dangerous. It's one of the worst pranks ever. You can be shot during the process as it happened to Andrew Finch. Swatting mostly happens to gamers. It's just impossible to live your lives these days.

I would block all tweets, tags or anything related to it or call on it and prosecuted starters of topics.

It's very similar to how people would order a ton of pizzas to your house back in the day as a prank, except this one can literally cause somebody to lose his or her life. Very sad that some people find this amusing.

This is not easy to done especially if you will order it from same pizzeria. Also, if you call many pizzeria most of them ask phone number so you can be track if they sue you. One time will pass, second time will not.

It's a dangerous game on so many levels. Can you imagine if the authorities were just as irresponsible and decided to blacklist them? We'd learn how funny it is then. Emergency services were put in place for just that, emergencies. And if they can't find anyone else to play with surely they can go play with themselves or some toys. WTH man?!

What type of sentence would you give for this 'joke'?

Take away their phones and ban them from having another one?

Great idea. If hackers can get sentence which forbid using laptop and Internet, why not them forbid all phones?

That's not funny. Not a joke. It's stupid and aggravating. Those people who view this as funny are psychopaths.

Unfortunatley many people consider it funny. More stupid thing you do, more subs you get.

I don't think majority of the people likes watching this kind of prank. They will criticize what they have done. It's inhumane.

Have you ever heard of a prank called swatting?

Postby OldGuy » 20 May 2022, 05:22

Good grief. There are a lot of different kinds of pranks that end up as videos on youtube and other sites. Some are just plain funny and others are cruel and over the top.

Seems there is one particular kind of prank that is a growing problem. Some bozo makes up a serious crime going on and calls the 3 digit emergency number to report it. The police response brings a whole host of serious issues "for a laugh"

Here is an example case:

"Ha Ha" ... jerks.

It is the first time I hear about this prank, personally I don't find it funny at all and I would be very upset if someone do that to me.

There's this youtuber I watch that has had this happen to him before. I've also read of other people dealing with this sick joke. Someone could get hurt in this sort of situation. It's also a form of harassment if you ask me. Just because you don't care for someone's content doesn't mean you get to harass them.

This is actually a very scary thought. I have played games in which I have live-streamed, and in all honesty, I've never given much thought to this potentially happening to me. Of course, I wasn't the biggest streamer, but I had 1.47k followers on YouTube for a while. With this being said, it's a terrible prank, and I feel as if it's just pure evil. It's a terrible way to ruin someone's life, and in the end, as several of you have mentioned, some people have died from this "joke." I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
